Walter finds his spark

Walter had only one task and that one task was to guard the dragon egg.

But now he had done it; of all the horrendous things he had done in his life this one was definitely the worst.

The sacred egg of the Phoenix Dragon was near time to hatch- it took a million years and one day to hatch and in that time it had been lovingly handed down through each generation from youngest born child to youngest born child in each family.

And now it was Walter’s turn to care for the beautiful egg, all resplendent in golden hues with a delicate soft pink speckle.

According to the calculations of Walter’s sister -Monica, who had studied the ancient texts and done extensive calculations, today was the auspicious day when the glorious and magical Phoenix Dragon hatchling would emerge.

BUT NOW the egg was GONE!!!!!

Walter replayed in his mind how it all happened.

He had taken time off work as a fire fighter and had been waiting vigil all week.

Exhausted he had dozed off for a mini nap and when he woke up the egg was missing from its nest of lichen.

But just as he stared dismayed at the empty nest he spied pieces of dragon egg shell on the table and there, sitting wide-eyed and starring up at him was a gorgeous baby dragon.

It stretched and let out a little yawn, slightly singeing Walter’s eyebrows with its fiery breath. “How adorable” crooned Walter.
