RAMADAN| POETRY

avatar

the world awaits a half-eaten moon—
a herald for a sear season
with allah's outstretched arms
a testimony allah could moor
marigolds to broken things
like a fragment.
we cast our piety to the heavens—
the world washes its kaftan clean
and peace spreads its tentacles
like explorative roots.
we smear solace on dry bones
with our zakat—
we remember a mendicant's bowl
we remember the breast-pocket
of a wandering ragamuffin.
we learn to caress our bellies
before fajr
and await for maghreb's departure
for another—
oh sawm, it's not
for gluttons.
like al qadar spread over
muhammed's eyes in ramadan,
we await the delivery of wonders—
for it's a pregnant season.
