Fire On The Mountain| AN ORIGINAL POEM

For #EndSARS protesters

what do we ask for?
we only want to live and not leave before our time.
the radio coughs:
a troop of hooligans mobs the serenity of the nation.
who defines the resistance against brutality as hooliganism?
government's magic.
i see the etymology of the word, hooliganism, in newspapers and government's talks:
EndSARS protesters, a word that gained familiarity
when our youths were beaten to speak with a turbulent voice and they did
they don't want us to speak,
and these men in black lay in ambush for our brothers.
a boy was dragged on the street for carrying dreadlocks,
his body lifeless like his dream—
he just wanted to propel his modelling career.
birds have since lost how to sing of joy;
they now singe with grief. there's fire on the mountain
and everybody seems to be on the run.
