We called him the Night Hawk. I can't remember why.
His name was Bill Griffen and he lived in the street next to us. He was a strange kid and we didn't really hang out with him much. His dad worked in construction and drove a big truck which was the coolest thing about Bill. His mother was a small mouse of a woman who always seemed to whisper.
Jeff said that it was deliberate that you had to concentrate to hear what she said.
“It was a power game,” he said. Jeff liked reading about psychology - his mother had magazines full of that kind of shit - and he would often tell us what people meant when they did or said something.
I just thought Bill's mother was quiet.
One morning Bill came into class late and he looked like he had been crying. He was shown into the room by Mr Stevens the deputy head. He whispered something in the ear of Mrs Kipper and Jeff leaned into me and said: "what's up with the Night Hawk?"
I didn't know, so just shrugged.
When the door shut behind Mr Stevens Mrs Kipper told us to shut up and get on with our work.

As usual I wrote the freewrite in five minutes using themostdangerouswritingapp.com and then copied and pasted it into a googledoc, tied it up a bit.

This was a nice post! Funny thing is that I actually know someone named Bill Griffen. ;-)
I wonder what he whispered to the teacher?
