Chapter XXII Marble pillar

Raft

The afternoons in the nursing home passed peacefully, in the living room some of the residents watched each day a soap opera of love with which they remembered their young times, on the other hand at one end four old men were distracted playing dominoes and some ladies next to them playing cards. Angeline liked the atmosphere of brotherhood that was breathed, she thought that they, having completed their cycle in life, tried to distract themselves so as not to think about the moment they should leave to meet the Most High.

Sometimes she approached the place where Charles sat reflecting on his seafaring past, after greeting him sat next to him with what he told him about his past, one of them caught his attention when being involved in a shipwreck, in which he made a raft based on logs to which he had placed a sail, with this he traveled for several days until the flagship in which Thomas was traveling rescued them, from that day they began their close friendship which was interrupted by the event on the island and the subsequent conviction of him.

Mayor visit

The work in the mayor's office became frantic after the dismissal of some of those responsible for the administrative portfolios, the new ones now faced the challenge of surpassing the previous ones, one of them was Andrew who was standing out for organizing diligently what had been proposed to him about the change of the of the nursing home.

The mayor, satisfied with the new environment, considered that for this new time he could fulfill the promises made in the electoral campaign, he begun to reflect on the possibility of being governor of the state. As he must demonstrate with facts the work that was being carried out, he called Andrew to arrange a visit to the nursing home to whom he would show his affection by inviting them to a special meal. Andrew proceeded to make the necessary arrangements knowing that he had solid support in place from his friend Angeline.

The day agreed for the mayor's visit arrived, there decked out the living room with flowers, a music band received the guests with what the elderly before the end of this play began to clap for joy since finally a politician engaged was visiting over them. Andrew had previously arranged with the local television company for the event to have a successful publicity, the reporter of the channel was there taking views of the place, narrating what was happening. After the mayor was called to take the place of honor, the manager gave a few welcoming words. The obviously delighted elders asked out loud that they wanted to hear what that fat man had to say, so they eagerly began to clap frenetically to hear him.

Angeline already had the fame of not accepting slips, she called them to calm down, so she invited the mayor with a melodious voice to give her speech since everyone there appreciated him.

Document Review

The work days every day were more exhausting to Mindy, her promotional work would culminate that week since when she was promoted to a higher position she had to leave everything prepared for the person who came to occupy her position, that day she finally met her, seemed an interesting person who was going to give continuity to what she had been developing. Already later in the superior position that she had to assume, she would soon take the responsibility of following up on promoters whose functions she knew with certainty, her results depended on her properly assuming her role as boss.

One of the tangible benefits that were presented to her at that time was represented by the two weeks of vacation that she was being granted, however, she was not going to take her to rest but had to make the trip to the tax haven in the Caribbean in which her father had left the most important money placements. As she still had to meet her sister and Andrew to review in more detail the documents that were in the bank's safe, she took the cell phone and called her sister Angeline, then that the phone rang several times, when attending Angeline, in the background a person was heard as giving a speech, she asked her sister what was happening. Angeline in a proud voice said:

"Mindy, today we are news, the mayor has visited us in the nursing home"

Remembering the reason for the call, she reminded her that they should resume the review of her father's documents, proposing that she and Andrew visit her the next day at home to carry out this task. Both agreed on the time they would see each other as time was pressing and they had not yet elucidated the whole legacy that Thomas had left them.

Journey into the unknown world

Mindy had prepared a tea service with cookies, when they arrived with a radiant face they congratulated him since they perceived a noticeable change in her, without explaining it, they sat down to talk animatedly about the events that occurred as a result of the mayor's visit to the elderly. One of the anecdotes that occurred to Angeline at the time had something to do with what Charles had told her regarding the friendship and appreciation that he had for Thomas.

Andrew, knowing that the man what he had was a breastplate in which he hid his true feelings and his sadness for having failed his best friend, however, one of the episodes that brought to mind Angeline had to do with the visit that both made it to the tax haven where her father had kept part of her fortune. Charles, at an unfortunate moment without intending to do so, told her that Thomas had a love affair there that grew stronger every time they returned to that place.

Mindy surprised to hear all that, since she did not expect it, she just wanted Angeline to silence that possible truth, since she could not believe that this loving man who had been had failed her and her mother, even on her return he kept hidden all the life of adventure that he had lived, only uncovering the truth the moment her sister appeared there in the city.

Once they finished taking the tea, they went up to Thomas's room, there all the documents had Mindy classified so it did not take them long to finish reviewing them and taking only the essentials to demonstrate the relationship they had with their father.

Mindy, already spiritually exhausted, asked Andrew to help her make arrangements with the travel agency for her tickets and the hotel reservation, since she would go there alone since Angeline would stay because of her work commitments and still could not enjoy vacation. For her, the place where she had to travel took her to an unknown world.

Surprise in the family

The day scheduled for the trip arrived, her sister Angeline and Andrew accompanied her to the airport and were with her accompanying her before the plane left. The three were excited since she had not left the city until that day, Mindy playing the important role told them:

"Neglect through my veins must run that force of the indomitable man who was my father"

At the moment the passengers were called to go to immigration, they hugged each other tightly and she went safely to the police control.

Angeline and Andrew watching her disappear among the other passengers inadvertently held hands, she in a gesture of affection put her arm behind his back. Andrew although she had thought many times how to approach Angeline lovingly was disarmed since she did not expect her reaction to be so tender.

With nothing else to do there, they hurried to the subway station to return to the hotel.

Mindy's flight was on time, with a few gusts that shook the plane she at times just wanted to scream with excitement. After four hours of flight and a coffee service that served the passengers, the plane finally landed smoothly. After getting off the plane and passing immigration control, there was a driver who had a sign with her name on it. This being a corpulent person stood out next to the other people who at that time were in the terminal. Delivering her luggage, they boarded the taxi and took her to the hotel.

When she got there, she was surprised by the architecture of the building, this one had marble pillars that reminded of a Greek temple, she was confused by this since she was in the Caribbean far from ancient Greece, with those thoughts hanging around her head. she realized that a middle-aged man was there waiting for her.

When she approached him, he extended his hand, he presented himself as Thomas, she when she heard the name of her father from another person, she looked at him in more detail, her heart turned over, since his bearing was similar to that shown in the photographs that she had of her father when he was young, however keeping silent, she said nothing thanking him for the deference for having received her.
