BREAKING: We have finally DEFEATED racism!
Coon cheese, named after its American creator, Edward William Coon have announced they'll be removing his 'racist' name from their brand.
Peter Russell-Clarke was the face of Coon cheese 30 years ago.
He said,
it's ridiculous and that Coon's owners should be more concerned about maintaining the quality of their cheese than ditching an 85-year-old name to suit the whim of the time."
I could not have said that better myself.
It's scary to think the power they've given bullies. Think about it; they've agreed to remove the NAME of the creator from a product HE created because BLM deemed it racist.
Where do we draw the line?
Does every Mr Black have to change their name now, or if they create something, will their name be scrubbed in years to come because a pack of bullies will say so?
Do ethnics who come here and have offensive sounding names in English have to change them? Do we bubblewrap the world to a point where we can no longer say anything, because in some language, somewhere, it possibly translates into something that offends someone? No.Because intent matters more than anything.
Racism is terrible, if it's intended to be racist. Not subjectively racist, actually racist. And jokingly racist doesn't count either, again intent matters. Comedians can make racist jokes, and it's funny because that's the intent.
What we need to be fighting are the groups committed to dividing us.
