"Dispensing Knowledge"

Knowledge; it is painful, traumatic, eye opening; but all to often it must be digested for survival.

The lighthouse, the owl, the growing knowledge of the world in the school backpack; and of course the apple that opens the other eyes; all are symbolic of the harshness of knowing. The judging watchers know things we do not and symbolize an ever present external consciousness.

This piece is a colored pencil sketch that I cannot seem to find anywhere. Digital manipulation is a great way to bring new life to lost, sold or destroyed art, so I brought an old scan into Procreate and gave it a workout

I alter the light and contrast ad some vibrancy and paint into the picture. Somehow I am just not happy with my piece, so I decide to take drastic measures.

Eternally frustrated I remember one of my old tricks, so I create another layer, dust the image with black, and use the eraser to carve my image back out of the dark.
