New Art! Her Fish Eye Knows All // [Discussion] on Crypto Art and rarity vs. selling multiple editions

As I mentioned in my previous post Cracked Open and Seeping Out in addition to selling my art on SuperRare I am now also selling on MakersPlace. The entire idea of SupaerRare is that you mint only 1 token, hence the name.

MakersPlace is a bit different in that you can mint a number of editions.

This is my newest piece on MakersPlace, it is a 1/1 edition and currently has a bid of 0.2 Ξ

Her Fish Eye Knows All

Up until now I have only minted 1/1 pieces because it seems that collectors value the rarity aspect but I have been pondering if I should do some runs of 3 or 5.

I understand that not everyone has a lot of money to spend on art, especially now during the pandemic many people are struggling. I would love to be able to offer my art cheaper, but I need to balance that with the amount of time I put into my work to strike a balance where I appropriately value my time.

I'd love to hear some feedback from crypto artists if they have noticed a big difference selling rares vs. editions. It would also be nice to hear from any collectors on how much they value rarity. Please let me know in the comments or on the tweeter!

This is one of my favourite artworks, love the colors and the Polaroid photo style presentation:)

Great point of discussion, i said a bit at twitter but it got me thinking more. i think that collectors woll always prefer the 1/1 editions but i noticed that the ones who buy copies of the multiple editions are other artists. It makes sense, collectors seek the rarity but we also like to buy a copy of a multi edition because we like the art and also support the artist.

I will go that way, with both rare and multi editions but still try to figure out how it will work, lol. Do you think the idea of making gifs and video as rare and the still versions as multi editions will work?

Some people on twitter made a good point saying that 1/1 makes more sense on the blockchain, but I do think there are a few good uses for mutiples, the accessibility of price is the main one for me because I don't think art should always be elite and only for the rich! I also like the idea of minting multiples for giveaways/freebies etc... still not 100% sure what I will do now lol

Rarity is important but multiple copies also make a lot of sense, i agree that art should be open for all and also with the gifts. Even posters for an event can be given with almost to nothing price just for the fun. I think the possibilities are endless and i believe that we will see the full potential of multiple copies nfts with music. This will really empower musicians to earn from their music:)

I am an Artist. More Traditional Art than Digital though. I am on Makerplace but cannot figure out how to upload anything .... I wonder how other artists find this place, seems so complicated. I would like to try to post some work there to see if I get any bids. I am happy to be earning $10 From posting my art work here on Hive. I earn more from the Timelapse making-of videos on YouTube and HideoutTV though. And the earnings are recurring.... infinite and forever over there. I know that we all say that we hate traditional media sites and ads but some of them pay artists forever and ever.... not just 7 days, not just once.... but constant passive income .... it puts food on the table. Some of us Artists need to eat. Any way ... that is just my two cents as a starving artist. If I can create a digital work of art / video and earn forever I am pretty happy. Keeps me creating .... am I in it just for the money ? Well after years and years of making art for nothing... people expecting it for FREE ..... I finally decided I would look for a way to earn a little. Luckily I found Steem and now a Hive.

I just saw your other post and someone recommended asking for help in the discord, this is what I would suggest too, probably the quickest way to get in direct contact with a human!

She is actually beautiful in a "fishy" way ... the not-quite symmetry is intriguing!

Thanks, I think this quarantine time is weirdly pushing a lot of artists to be more productive, maybe a silver lining ?
