A story set during the Middle Ages, with a background that extends from the unjust social structure, the Black Death and even the Holy Inquisition. In general, Berserk's plot follows the path of Guts, a former mercenary and cursed swordsman, forced to wander relentlessly to survive and seek revenge; and Griffith, an ambitious and inspiring young man who created the Hawk Gang, a thriving group of mercenaries who voluntarily joined him to help him achieve his dream: to be king, and change the unjust social structures in which they are embedded.

Berserk's introductory bow, the "Black Swordsman", presents a narrative that departs from the rest of the play. Here, the protagonist is almost a villain: he seems to be just a barbarian, devoid of feelings and moved only by hatred and desire for revenge. However, a few chapters later, the story continues almost like a gigantic flashback, contextualizing his tragic and abusive childhood within a group of mercenaries and following his trajectory since then.

El arco introductorio de Berserk, el "Espadachín Negro", presenta una narración que se aparta del resto de la obra. Aquí, el protagonista es casi un villano: parece ser sólo un bárbaro, desprovisto de sentimientos y movido sólo por el odio y el deseo de vengarse. The following arc, called "The Golden Age," is inserted into this flashback and therefore presents this sudden change of context, which remains the same until the current chapters, with some (large) warnings. This saga also presents the Hawk Band, full of sentimental scenes and entirely focused on building deep human relationships. Focusing its narrative on the development of the relationship of the two main characters, it also brings in brilliant and surprising secondary characters such as Caska and Judeau.

The circumstance in which the protagonists meet is important for the relationship they both build: Guts starts from a problematic and traumatic childhood, following his life without purpose and simply going from battle to battle; and Griffith is the "White Hawk", a young leader who dreams of building his own kingdom. Within this superficial point of view, the author Kentaro Miura constructs a complex psychological plan, taking care to detail each interaction between the members of the Band, so that each element such as dialogues, past circumstances, created bonds, justifies the end to which the story is directed.

Dilemmas such as the search for belonging, respect and even friendship arise from a traumatic childhood to shape the Black Swordsman and his decisions in various ways. Probably, as the character of the Hawk develops in our eyes, the feeling of guilt for the death of his allies is remarkable. In addition to a selfish desire to assert himself as special in the world, Griffith realizes that the only way to redeem himself with the dead is to achieve his dream, and this element brings Berserk to the height of his tragic-epic characteristic.

Dilemas como la búsqueda de pertenencia, respeto e incluso amistad surgen de una infancia traumática para dar forma al Espadachín Negro y sus decisiones de varias maneras.
