(ESP-ENG) Yomi no Tsugai | First impressions - First episode Review!

As with almost every anime that arrives with high expectations for its first episode, today we're going to talk about this week's premiere, the anime I've seen so many videos claiming will be another gem of the year. And yes, I'm talking about Yomi no Tsugai, or Daemons of the Shadow Realm. It's worth clarifying that this isn't an extended episode or anything special, but the hype surrounding the premiere of this story made it necessary to talk a little about what I saw in these first 23 minutes. And why? Well, because there are details you should know, and I'm going to give you perhaps the most important ones: Hiromu Arakawa is the creator, and yes, she's the same one who created Fullmetal Alchemist, and the studio is BONES. With this information, that should be enough.

Al igual que con casi todos los anime que llegan con las expectativas altas con su primer capitulo el día de hoy vamos a hablar del estreno de la semana, de ese anime del que he visto muchos videos asegurando que será otra de las joyas del año. Y si, hablo de Yomi no Tsugai o de Daemons of the Shadow Realm. Hay que aclarar que no es ningún episodio extendido ni nada especial pero es que el hype que se ha creado entorno al estreno de esta historia hizo necesario que hablara un poco de lo que vi en estos primeros 23 minutos. Y por qué? - pues porque hay detalles que deberías de saber y te voy a dar quizás de los más importantes: Hiromu Arakawa es la creadora y si es la misma de Fullmetal Alchemist y el estudio es BONES. Ya con esta información tendría que ser suficiente.

We find ourselves in a village, one of those isolated from everything and everyone, where people are content with what they have and the way they live; it's a typical rural and "primitive" life. Yuru and Asa live there. He's a young hunter with skills far above average, and she's a young woman who, for reasons unknown, lives locked in a cage; they are siblings. The peace and tranquility that pervaded the place is shattered when helicopters and planes suddenly begin arriving with armed men searching for someone. Ironically, the villagers called these aircraft "dragons," reflecting their isolation from the outside world.

Nos encontramos en una aldea, de esas que están apartadas de todo y de todos, en donde las personas son felices con lo que tienen y con la forma en la que viven; es la típica vida rural y "primitiva". Allí vive Yuru y Asa, él es un joven cazador con unas habilidades bastante más altas del promedio y ella es una joven que por motivos que desconocemos vive encerrada en una jaula; ambos son hermanos. La paz y la calma que se respiraba en aquel lugar se ve interrumpida cuando de repente comienzan a llegar helicópteros y aviones con hombres armados buscando a alguien. Hay algo cómico y es que los habitantes de esta aldea llamaban "dragones" a estas naves, de ahí lo apartados que ellos estaban con el mundo real.

The thing is, a massacre occurs in the village, leaving Yuru with more questions than answers. At the end, we see him trying to escape, but he realizes something is wrong with his sister, and the speed at which things happen doesn't allow much time to understand the situation. In the end, we see that this young hunter possesses great power thanks to the summoning of the "tsugai," protective demons. Obviously, it's difficult to draw conclusions from just one episode, but we can imagine what the genre and tone of the story will be like. Many are saying that this is the successor to Fullmetal Alchemist, and that may be true considering its creator, but even in this first episode, we can see certain differences. First, this is a supernatural action/fantasy story. We see interesting things with two of the characters who possess very interesting and even lethal powers/abilities.

La cosa es que ocurre una masacre en dicho pueblo lo que deja a Yuru con más preguntas que respuestas. Al final vemos como él intenta escapar pero se da cuenta que algo pasa con su hermana y por la velocidad en la que ocurren las cosas no da tiempo de entender mucho la situación. Al final vemos como este joven cazador es portador de un gran poder gracias la invocación de los "tsugai", unos demonios protectores. Obviamente es complicado sacar conclusiones con apenas un episodio pero si que podemos imaginar como será el género y el tono de la historia. Muchos hablan de que estamos ante el sucesor de FMA y puede ser teniendo en cuenta lo de su creadora pero ya en este primer capítulo podemos ver ciertas diferencias. Lo primero es que esto es una acción/fantasía sobrenatural, vemos cosas interesantes con dos de los personajes que tienen que ver con poderes/habilidades bien interesantes y hasta letales.

This brings us to the second point. The reason this episode garnered so much attention was one particular scene. I won't say much about it, but it's certainly striking and immediately showcases the violent, even cruel, nature of the story. This scene is excellent; the way this character uses their power is comical, but you understand it when you see what it's all about. I think the "innocence" disguised as something else is worse because these characters usually end up being the worst. Thirdly, I was expecting an ancient, medieval story filled with fantasy, but no, while there are elements of that, there are also guns, helicopters with machine guns, and smartphones. I think we can understand why these people were so detached from the modern world; it was a grand introduction to that reality.

Esto nos lleva a lo segundo. Si este episodio llamó tanto la atención fue por una escena en particular, no les voy a comentar mucho al respecto pero si que es cierto que es muy llamativa y ya nos muestra el tinte violento que puede tener, incluso hasta cruel si queremos apostar más alto. Este pasaje es muy bueno, la forma en como este personaje emplea su poder es cómica pero claro lo entiendes cuando ves de que se trata; creo que la "inocencia" cuando se disfraza es peor porque por lo general estos personajes terminan siendo los peores. Y lo tercero es que la verdad esperaba encontrarme con una historia antigua, medieval y llena de mucha fantasía pero no, al final si hay de eso pero también hay pistolas, helicópteros con ametralladoras y teléfonos inteligentes; creo que podemos entender porque esta gente estaba tan alejada del mundo moderno, fue una presentación a esa realidad por todo lo alto.

From what little we've seen, the animation is top-notch. It's rare for an anime to fall short in this department these days, given the huge amount of money and time invested, but it's worth mentioning. At least it's visually stunning, and that's already a good thing. One assumes that as the episodes progress, things will get heavier and darker. Honestly, it was an excellent first episode. I think I'm feeling the same way about this new story as I did with Sentenced to be a Hero, when I thought it would be a great anime. If it manages to maintain the pace and the interesting plot—which I have no doubt it will, given that Arakawa is behind it—then we'll have another contender for anime of the year, without a doubt. Go watch it and follow it week after week because it looks promising. I'll leave the trailer below.

De lo poco que se ve hay que decir que la animación está bien top, es difícil que un anime falle en este departamento hoy en día dado el dinero y tiempo tan grande que se invierte pero no está demás aclararlo. Por lo menos lo de ser gráfica lo tiene y ya eso es bueno, uno supone que con el pasar de los capítulos la cosa se irá poniendo más pesada y oscura. Honestamente fue un excelente primer capitulo, creo que al igual que me pasó con Sentenced to be a Hero al pensar de que sería un gran anime me está pasando con esta nueva historia. Si logra mantener el ritmo y lo interesante de la trama, cosa que no dudo ya que es Arakawa la que está detrás de esto, pues tendremos otro contendiente a anime del año pero es que sin ninguna duda. Vayan a verlo y síganlo semana tras semana porque tiene buena pinta. Les dejo el trailer por acá abajo.

Algo en lo que suelo fijarme cuando se trata de anime es en los detalles, y este se ve bastante bien; es una buena elección. También tus observaciones son para tener en cuenta, porque te anima a verlo.

The biting scene certainly made an impact. I am looking forward to how they mix modern and ancient times while explaining the bond with spirit creatures. It does resemble the animation style of FM alchemist.

That's what's interesting, seeing how the two worlds come together. That's what I didn't expect, a magical place where pistols and machine guns suddenly appear. It'll be interesting to see.
