How I made my Watercolor Painting of a Sunset.

Good day guys,
Today, after some numerous house chores, I decided to make a great use of my day by making my very first serious painting with my new art materials, my new watercolor set and my new brushes really served me well today but I never knew the watercolor paper I bought was crap until I used it today, and I just had to manage it.

That I could even achieve the nice painting you could see above was very stressful due to the fact that the paper I had to use was just so bad! I really can't overemphasize the fact the watercolor I used for the painting is that bad, but luckily for me, I still have a good painting at last, so let's see how I ended up with the final picture above.

Outlines...

In the afternoon around 2pm, I started making moves on my painting, I prepared my paper on my center table with a masking tape, and I looked into my reference picture and I mixed down virtually all the colours and paints that I'll be needing throughout the painting.

Since my pallette is wide enough for me to prepare all my colours, I decided to use the wet on wet technique but unfortunately for me, then I realized that the paper I was using will never be good for wet on wet, so I had to do wet on dry, and I started from the lightest values as you can see in the picture above.

I added more dark values to the sky with a very brilliant purple, and I added some cloudy effects with some touches of orange. I also added some red strokes as the stems for some flower plants, and also so dark values beneath the stems.

At this stage of the painting, I had spent about 40mins because I had to leave the painting to dry up itself at some point. So, I painted the flower plants with some details immediately. Painted the flower plants with about four different shades of green from the lightest to the darkest value. I also added some darker values to the stems of the flower plants with some brown and some little touches of black.

Finally, I finished the painting with some finishing and detailing touches in order to achieve some from of solidity and naturalism.

I hope you all find the painting interesting, and I would love to read your comments below. Thanks.

Yeah vines. The painting is quite different from the reference, I do a lots of improvisation and manipulations in my paintings so I don't upload the references.
