Commission #29 Snow Warrior Bear | Digital Art

avatar

The snowy mountains have been one of my favorite places to camp and explore, a peaceful and rejuvenating hobby. But this time something feels different, the snow is falling hard and I feel something dangerous near me. In the distance, an aggressive roar makes its way to my ear and invades everything around me. I look up to the sky and try to determine when the storm will end, but it seems that there will be no end to it. In an attempt to look around me I glimpse a huge and intimidating figure, it seems to possess a strange strength in its gaze, I can only make out its silhouette because of the blue crystals that come out of its body, giving it a terrifying aura.

In an instant the snow covers everything and blinding my vision, even so, I struggle not to lose sight of such a magnificent specimen, it disappears without a trace, it desperately looked for a place to spend the night and the storm, now with fear running through my body, I never expected to meet such a wonderfully terrifying beast. I can only hold on until morning to continue my journey normally, hoping that this apparition will mean good fortune in my journey.

Wait for the end of the snowfall by my side and stay to watch the elaboration of this commission made for @smanuels.

Tools:

  • Wacom Intuos 4
  • Medibang Paint
  • Photoshop

-Step 1:

Start by sketching the idea quickly, but try to define a little the details of the bear's humanoid structure.

-Step 2:

Fill in the sketch with a solid gray, so that I can use "pixel blocking" and color inside this area without risk of getting out of it. I did the shading using the gray scale, since this way I can achieve more volume in the character.

-Step 3:

The landscape is a snowy mountainous place, so I used a color palette very close to blue, contrasting with white tones, since this would be the distinction between rock and snow.

-Step 4:

I increased the contrast of the scene, and then colored the bear, his coat should be kept between gray and white, but to avoid this monotony, I added a little blue shading, matching the crystals of his back and claws, by the way, for these I used the fusion modes "hard light" and "overlay" with them achieve that attractive luminosity. In addition, I polished the last details, such is the case of the shield on his forearm and the buckle of his belt, both made with a rustic touch, very much in line with the nature of this beast.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

See you in a future post!
