Critters & Flowers

#wednesdaywalk is inspired by @tattoodjay. He is taking a break right now but hopefully will be back posting and commenting soon.

The idea for Wednesday Walk is to go out for a short walk and take some shots of what you can.

As I went outside this morning I was surprised to see a little chipmunk. He was on the back deck railing and eating the piece of apple I put out for Tiny, the red squirrel.

The chipmunk is even smaller than Tiny. I don’t know how they get along but Tiny was at the other end of the deck eating the peanuts. They ignored each other.

The chipmunk finished the piece of apple and is standing up in the grass. He’s wondering what I’m doing trying to get a clear shot of him. It looks like he is smelling what is left of a dandelion but it was in front of him.

Chipmunks are not as brave as squirrels when it comes to people. Chippy soon took off towards the forest.

What a beautiful time of the year with the flowers blooming and many birds and butterflies returning. I checked out some flowers that were blooming.

Purple Columbines are a perennial wildflower. I originally found these in the ditch by the road, dug them out and put them in the garden.

Hummingbirds like the columbines. The flowers come in different colors. This is a white columbine. I also had a pink and blue one but don’t see them in the garden.

Lilacs are in full bloom and add an attractive splash of color.

Blue Bearded Irises are opening.

That’s all for this walk folks.

I simply love that first photo of the Chipmunk Jo, I just feel I could pick him up and take him home. Lol. I wish we had them here in Australia! I hope Tiny got some of the apple to eat, although he seems to be happy with the peanuts.

I felt the same when I saw him Trudee. I usually leave a couple pieces of an apple and a few peanuts out on the deck railing for Tiny in the morning. Chippy must have been watching and decided to get in on the goodies.
I’ll leave extra out now as i think Chippy will keep visiting.

Thanks Trudee! ❤️

I love the photo where the Chipmunk smells the flower, Jo, it looks so sweet. I'd love to have such little guys here.

These purple columbines are beautiful. I have seen a few on my last forest walk. Columbines are protected here, so you wouldn't have been allowed to dig them out 😉

Have a wonderful day 😊

Hi Johann. Yes the chipmunks are so cute. I hadn’t seen one around for a few years and it’s nice to see them.

The lady Slippers are the provincial flower and the wildflower is protected here. You are not suppose to pick or dig them up. They grow wild in the forest and are in bloom now,

Are the columbines the national flower of Austria? The columbines I dug up would have eventually been mowed down by the machine used to cut the grass along the road ditches - really I saved them.😄 🥀

It is suppose to be around 28c today. I checked the yahoo weather map and see you may have thiunderstorms. Not too bad if your are working and standing on rubber. 😉

Thanks Johann and have a happy Thorsday.

Good afternoon Jo 🙂

I usually don't touch any flowers and photograph them live as they are, but I know a few flowers which are protected because they are very seldom in some areas, and I do believe you that you saved them, because I have also seen orchids on fields which have been mowed by the farmer ;)
Our national flowers are Edelweiss and Gentian

We have had beautiful weather today and it was quite warm at about 25C, but in the afternoon gray storm clouds have grown in all directions and so I decided to stay at home because you might have been right. We have had some wind but no storm though and now it seems to be a nice evening. For tomorrow they predict rain again, but I do hope it will be dry again :)

I hope you have a wonderful afternoon and maybe you'll see the little Chipmunk again, but don't be too nice to it, otherwise Tiny could get jealous 😉

So, I think I'm going to finish my "I" post for the #AlphabetHunt to have at least one post this week 🙂

The Gentian is a lovely blue flower Johann. I’ve heard the word Edelweiss in a song but I never thought of it as a flower. I don't really know what I thought it was..maybe a good wine. 😄

I see the edelweiss has many romantic meanings.🌹

You would not guess who is jealous of the little critters. It’s the Blue Jays and the Grackles. They watch the back deck like hawks and will steal the peanuts and apple pieces whenever possible. The grackles even try to bomb dive them to drive them away.

A warm day here (33C) and a nice breeze. I’m glad you didn’t get the thunderstorm. It looked the same for your area tomorrow but the predictions are not always right.

You got your wonderful I selection up quickly Johann. I’ve already checked .😉

Enjoy a wonderful evening!😊

I don't think I have a photo of an Edelweiss, but it is on my task list :)
Yes, it is a very romantic flower and there are a lot of romantic stories around it, because the most beautiful grow in steep rock faces and if a man wants to give his loved one an Edelweiss he would climb to get such a beautiful little flower. Of course the Edelweiss is a strictly protected flower.

I would love to see these birds - must be great fun to watch them 🙂

I have to admit that I have been adding the words which came into my mind to a draft during the past days. Then I searched for suitable photos and added a short text. Just the Selfie was a bit more work, because my wife had to help me because I didn't see anything under the shirt ;) lol

You have a wonderful evening too Jo 🙂

I’ll do an feathered friends posts of the devilish Grackles soon. They are more territorial than the blue Jays.

You are not alone, Johann, I also use the draft and add words and photos as I think of them.

You know I’m only teasing about posting first and about your T-shirt selfie. 😉 That I was really inventive.

Have a wonderful Friday Johann.😊

When you wrote about the Grackles I had a short look what Google shows me and thought they were your kind of blackbirds, but now I had a deeper look and see that they are very different. They look like small crows with beautiful shining black feathers. I'm looking forward to your post :)

You gave me the idea of making drafts in a comment, but I have to admit that I am lazy and have only 2 drafts - S and M with only one word 😉 lol

I know you are only teasing, but since my first day in the Internet I really have tried to avoid having a photo of me online where I am recognizable ;)

Have a wonderful Friday too Jo 🙂

The grackles are quite the birds. People either love them or hate them. I like the idea they patrol the yard constantly for bugs and ants.

I only go to the next letter to find words to put in the draft. Right now I have 3 of the J letter words with photos. I’m getting set and ready. 😀

Sometimes it is good not to have your photo splashed around.the internet. I haven’t decided if I’ll do a selfie for J. :)

I hope your Friday is going well and have a wonderful weekend Johann.😊

So they are your guards and keep the unwanted enemies away 😉

I still have no J word, but we have plenty of time until next week. I had a long day at work and now we have a rainy evening. If it is raining tomorrow I have time to go through my archive ;)

I wish you a wonderful weekend too Jo 🙂

You're very welcome Jo! I love seeing chipmunks but have never seen them around here. I've seen them though when camping but they are fast and skittish lil critters. 😊 💕
