Inner migration of the Flamingos soon.

At last we found an entrance (open gate) to the protected lake area.

The gate was behind the palm trees and we left our car here from where I took the photo.

Wednesday Walk in the Western Cape Province.

This a large lake on the outskirts of the town and you can see the town surrounding the lower slopes of that mountain under cloud.
Behind us was the Atlantic ocean about 500 meters away.

This post is also suitable for the #wednesday challenge hosted by @tattoodjay

Right, we were in and look at that lovely sight. The footpath at the right was our route.
062.jpg

I saw this Blacksmith Lapwing (Vanellus armatus) doing his thing near some rocks in the water.
100.jpg

Oops! Almost stepped on a dragonfly on the foot path.
067.jpg

Some crazy and lovely cloud formations on the mountain range.
089.jpg

A coot was running towards an intruder in his territory.
123.jpg

Bang! The coot greeted the enemy.
124.jpg

And then the enemy made a dash for safety with the attacker following.
127.jpg

Here we had a large flock of Egrets landing behind a couple of Egyptian geese.
130.jpg

A mom Yellow-billed duck (Anas undulata) was cruising around with her babies.
073.jpg

The babies were maybe two or three weeks old with no hair (feathers) on their heads yet.
074.jpg

That green island at the left in the water is where the Flamingo's gather when they arrive.
I will hide in the reeds next to the island where the yellow cross mark is.
Of course my clothing and my hat will match the color of the reeds.

We always sat in the car on the last road between the town and the lake, watching the flamingos but they were too far away for me to get clear shots on the zoom. Once or twice we tried to gain entry to the lake area, but all things were locked up tight.
Then on this day we saw people (hikers) walking next to the lake and we decided to investigate.
Oh yes, there was a hidden gate and we found it.

In full summer this lake welcomes large flocks of birds and also raptors and my camera is looking forward to a party at the lake.

And That's All Friends!

I am glad that you enjoyed the post JJ and it was my pleasure to pop in.
Many will say that it was just luck that I found the gate and If I had not turned the car in behind a building, we would not have found it. But I believe that I was destined to find the gate.
Such is life my friend and I will get those flamingo's when they come.

That looks like a real bird paradise, Zac, and I am glad you have found the gate. Now I am looking forward to the arrival of the Flamingos and your photos.
I hope that we don't only get photos of the pink birds, but also one of you, almost invisible in the reeds 😉

Hahaha, you will not see me in the reeds Hannes, but I will ask Marian to take a photo.

Still a while to wait for the Flamingos, but yes, in the meantime we will visit the lake again to do more studies.

Cheers and thanks.

So Marian will take a photo and we have to search for a green man in green reeds and teh first one who sees you is the winner 🏆 cool 😁

Until they come you have time to search for good places and see what else is around.

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

A good idea and I will remember this for a post.
What makes you think that you will see me, as the bird's eyes are sharper than yours and they won't see me?

Yes, as I said before, a good preparation always makes for a good outcome.
Luckily I have done it many times before in other situations, so yes, it will also work this time.
I hope 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Haha, I hope I will see you, but you could make a post called "who finds me in the reeds?"
I am sure you will be lucky and we will get many nice photos to see 😀
