Welcoming the lunar new year with less fancy celebration. We did decide to go for Filipino favorites! Nope, they're not exactly gastronomic delights, but they're some forms of comfort food. Plus, I stuck to my desire to do my part in the #buylocal campaign.

My daughter has always liked pancit bihon. She always has her way, as I may prefer pancit malabon or palabok, but this one is just as good for me.

Pica-pica snacks: fish ball, kikiam, squid ball. We just missed having these all-time favorite street food delights. 😂🤣 ahhh there will be lots of leftover for tomorrow.

Suman (sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves). I haven't tasted this particular brand, but my daughter says it's good. I will surely taste it later. 😉👍🏼

The classic leche flan. Mmm if you get a chance to try it, please do. It's something I've tried making at home in the past too. But tonight, no one wants to do any cooking. 😝😝

We got to mix sago't gulaman (gelatin & tapioca pearls) ourselves. It came with concentrated syrup, and we just needed to add water. Mmm 😋😋 now I miss Max's Restaurant unlimited refill. 😂🤣

We've been redefining family celebrations since the year started. In our own way, it's a way of coping with craziness around us. I seriously doubt everything will be better this year. That's actually the optimistic side talking. 🤓🤓 we might as well face reality. We need to realign and readjust goals and focus.

For now, enough of serious talk. I'll just enjoy the rest of the night. Lucky for my daughter, she's on work holiday tomorrow. Boohoo for me. 😝😝

All righty, I'll see you for my next video. Happy weekend in advance! 🎉🎉🎉

@iamraincrystal - First of all, I need to say that you are killing me with your yummy feast. This makes me feel really miss to travel back to enjoy the Philippines. Pancit Bihon is one of my favorite Filipino food. I don't mind eating pancit bihon everyday. In Thailand where I live, we also have some kind of food that look likes pancit bihon and made from rice noodle as well but still miss the mood and feel of pancit bihon from the Philippines.

I strongly support your idea of #buylocal to help local folk to strive and survive during the pandemic. I myself normally do household shopping from supermarket and chained store. Since the pandemic, I realize that local business and small shop are hitting hard to survive. So now most of household goods are bought from nearby local shop and store. I normally cook my own meal with fresh vegetables from my garden, I don't have chance to buy food from local that much. But love to walk around to buy local sweet treat to enjoy with my coffee or tea.

Nothing great and better than having time to celebrate and enjoy a feast with family. Gong Xi Fa Chai! Wishing You a Prosperous Chinese New Year 2021.

Do you also celebrate the lunar new year there? It's actually a work holiday here, but I did have work. The best part is it's done for the day! Woohoo 🎉🎉🎉

So many other local dishes we have not featured as we could only consume so much. We also buy what we could eat up only to avoid wastage. Lucky you to have a vegetable garden! I will need to step up and learn gardening via containers. It helps to grow ypur own food these days.

Happy weekend!

@iamraincrystal - I am not the Chinese but take some benefit of friends who are Chinese as they always send some foods, fruits and other sweet treats during Chinese New year and other Chinese festivals. Great that you can eat up all with no food waste as so many hungers in this world.

As a full time traveler, I myself never consider to any kind of garden just a simply pot plant for some kind of fresh leave vegetables such as peppermint and etc. But after the pandemic, gardening is the best thing to enjoy at home. I always cook by myself once I am at home. So better to have my own supermarket of fresh vegetables in my back yard that I can enjoy it anytime. I can rest assured with pesticide free with my own vegetables. So I can enjoy my hard earned for a bit longer.

I recommend you start by planting in a pot with space and time saving in an experimental mode that you can expand it later.

Have a great day. !ENGAGE

Awesome to see your feast. I'm working on my dishes for the lunar new year as well - part one will have to wait until tomorrow though as I've already done my second post of the day. (And the meat is still marinating for another hour or two...)
I'm going to divide my Chinese food into two parts, maybe three since I also want to do sushi... we'll see how I feel tomorrow. Maybe next year, I will feel more ambitious. I love making Chinese food, and now that I have some "no soy sauce" that seems to work well, I should be able to do more.
