En mi país latino en 2019 volvieron las protestas antigubernamentales en contra en contra del partido socialista que lleva en el poder más de 20 años, este día fuí foto reportero independiente de estos sucesos. Varias de las fotografías que se enseñaran a continuación es material exclusivo nunca antes mostrado.

En mi país si no eres un fotografo famoso de algun canal socialista-comunista estas en peligro, se han visto multiples ataques y robo de equipos a la prensa desde hace años de manera continua, entonces sabiendo esto, un escenario de calle se vuelve mucho más peligroso que el del mismo protestante. Claro aqui vamos a dar un stop, la percepción del otro lado tal vez no sea tan explicita en todos los contextos como lo narraré, pero en un estado que metieron preso a niños menores de edad por una publicación antigubernamental en facebook ( hasta que se volvió viral en resdes y los soltaron), creo que todo es posible.

Primero la cámara, debes llevarla lo más bajo perfil posible y más en un lugar que no es cotidiano ver reporteros de calle, debes anticipar la configuración de los disparos que harás, en mi caso a mi cámara no le funciona el modo automático, por lo tanto la uso en manual y debo anticipar la exposición de cada fotografía, ten en cuenta tener una velocidad de obturación rápida para que no te salgan las fotos movidas pero que salgan bien iluminadas.

El humo de las lacrimógenas, tienen un efecto fatal al inhalarlo, tranca la respiración, botas lagrimas, moco, te asfixias horrible... Por ello si no tienes mascara de oxígeno, o sea esas caretas con filtros, y no aguantas inhalar nada de humo o entras en pánico, NO TE PONGAS jamás de primero, te perderas de la acción es verdad, pero es preferible eso a que quedes en el suelo desmayado con cámara en mano...

En este escenario de calle es vital donde estes posicionado y anticipes cada uno de los sucesos que se sospecha que pueden pasar, solo de ese modo tienes oportunidad de hacer buenas fotografias cuando sea el momento, porque si no las cosas pasan tan rapido y puede que no te de tiempo de estar en el angulo adecuado. Hay que tener mucho cuidado porque en estas protestas hay tiros de arma de fuego y en mi país han muerto muchos por detonaciones de lacrimogena y perdigones también a quema ropa. Por esto jamás debes atravesarte en el medio, siempre de algún lado o punto más seguro posible. A pesar de eso siempre estas en peligro, nunca sabes cuando puede haber algun franco tirador en las altura por poner un ejemplo, pero de igual manera debes minimizar riesgos.

Se debe estar bajo perfil e infiltrarse con la multitud donde estas seguro, porque creer que tu trabajo será respetado por alguien desconocido, no es nada seguro; por ejemplo yo tenia un casco, pero casi no lo usé ya que en la multitud de civiles solo 1 chamo que vi usaba casco, asi que era muy llamativo y no queria eso.

Se debe tener en cuenta que si las fotografías normal en la calle hay personas que no les gusta que los retraten, imaginense como les caería que vean que le tomaste un primer plano de alguno disparando o lanzando una molotov. Por eso se debe tener cierto entendimiento, distancia y entender la privacidad de estas personas desconocidas en una situación tensa, ya que se reacciona más por instinto que como personas civilizadas, es decir, no esperes que van a dialogar contigo, te van a tirar la cámara al suelo de una vez (todo depende como afrontes la situación)

Pueden pasar muchas cosas. A un amigo en otro estado documentando cuando los civiles retrocedieron , el se quedo parado fotografiando, resulta que los Gnb avanzaron y lo agarron a el y a otros de la prensa, a los demás le partieron las camaras, a un señor de una cadena de tv le botaron los credenciales, les dieron golpes, al otro colega de mi amigo lo pusieron a hacer sentadillas con un caucho encima y no recuerdo ya si es el mismo caso en que los metieron en una tanqueta militar y les detonaron una lacrimogena dentro, hay un caso así pero de verdad no recuerdo si fue este. Estas cosas pasan mucho y aun no encuentro el por qué. A pesar de lo anterior debo añadir que una vez iba caminando a casa y vi a la gente corriendo por la calle cuando los gnb venian en moto, asi que pendejo no soy, corri tambien, a mi no me abrieron la puerta de la casa cercana y me quede afuera, varios gnb me revisaron y me devolvieron la cámara en un punto que quedé solo (con las personas de las casas viendo), y bueno este fue el ultimo dia que participé con cámara ya que lo consideré que fue una señal de la vida, jamás un gnb (guardia militar) te devolvería una cámara (y menos con su fama de corrupcion), pero bueno supongo que el cabecilla de ese grupo no era tan malo...

En otros contextos de protestas, normalmente cuando se dan de manera multitudinaria de civiles y se ocasiona un enfrentamiento, por ponerles un ejemplo gráfico de en una calle amplia, en que un bando está en un extremo y los funcionarios policiales militares con sus carros blindados en otro (así fue el contexto de mi amigo que mencioné anteriormente). En este caso, en la localidad de estás fotos no fue así y esto volvió mucho más peligrosa la situación, ya que practicamente esto fue en una ciudad pequeña, en que las dimensiones de la calles y todo es en menor escala,por lo tanto cada esquina es posible una arremetida, por lo tanto aqui debes estar dispuesto a correr y jamás cansarte. Si estas fuera de forma y no puedes correr ni una cuadra sin que el corazon se te salga del pecho NO ASISTAS a estas cosas.

En este contexto de localidad, primera vez que se vieron tantos protestantes, yo creo que pueden pasar los un mil de este pueblo pequeño, yo estaba un poco alante de lo que inicialmente era una marcha, pero recuerdo que cuando estabamos llegando al punto de retención en que los funcionarios tenian una barrera impidiendo el paso, llamé a una amiga a ver donde estaba, y ella estaba kilómetros más atras y me decia que por ahí aún habia gente y estaban avanzando a donde yo estaba, increíble!. Luego supongo que algún alto mando se cansó de tener tanta gente en la calle y mandó la orden de disparar para dispersar, ya que como les dije vi todo y el ambiente no era hostil (pero sabia que era solo cuestion de tiempo para que alguno de los dos bandos atacara o pasara algo), apenas soltaron la primera lacrimógena tuve que moverme a zona segura de un lado ya que fue muy inesperado esa detonación y las que vinieron despues. Luego de eso empezó la batalla...

La batalla abarcó casi todas las calles del perímetro, en este momento intenté seguir mi labor de documentar pero ante tanta dispersión y tantos ataques por todos lados era una situación muy peligrosa, lo intenté pero creo que tambien implicó que mi zoom del objetivo es limitado, por lo tanto tenía que acercarme más a los escenarios y esto me dejaba expuesto, hasta que tuve que resguardarme en una casa ya que del lado de donde estaba, la gente se dispersó y donde estaba mucha gente luchando aún temía que ir y en caminar esas calles solas me pudiera pasar algo, eso y que ya estaba muy cansado, tenía hambre, ya tenía muchas buenas fotos y tambien que en ese momento ya habian civiles armados del partido socialistas (no se vieron armados o al menos hasta donde tengo conocimiento , pero su fama es que esten armados mejor que la policía), y bueno decidí que mi intenso día concluyó. Lamentablemente luego me enteré de que al finalizar el día murió un protestante menor de edad por un tiro en la cabeza...

Lo volvería a hacer¿

No, creo que cuando se abusa en cosas de la vida hay mayor probabilidad de que te pase algo negativo y seguirlo haciendo ya sería un abuso, además no me trajo ningún beneficio que me interese, así que no, no lo volveria a hacer, pero tampoco me arrepiento haber aportando mi grano de arena en esta y otras maneras en las protestas cíviles a gran escala que tuvo mi país.

First the camera, you must take it as low a profile as possible and more in a place where it is not everyday to see street reporters, you must anticipate the configuration of the shots that you will take, in my case the automatic mode does not work, so I use it both in manual and I must anticipate the exposure of each photograph, keep in mind to have a fast shutter speed so that the photos do not come out blurred but that they come out well lit.

In this street scene it is vital where you are positioned and anticipate each of the events that are suspected to happen, only in this way do you have the opportunity to take good photographs when the time is right, because if not, things will happen quickly and may not. it gives you time to be at the right angle. You have to be very careful because in these protests there are gunshots and in my country many have died from detonations of tear gas and pellets, also from burning clothes. For this reason you should never cross yourself in the middle, always from somewhere or the safest possible point. Despite that you are always in danger, you never know when there may be a sniper in the heights, but in the same way you must minimize risks.

You must be low-key and infiltrate the crowd where you are safe, because believing that your work will be respected by someone unknown is not safe at all; for example I had a helmet, but I hardly used it since in the crowd of civilians only 1 boy I saw wore a helmet, so it was very striking and I didn't want that.

It should be taken into account that if the normal photographs in the street there are people who do not like to be portrayed, imagine how it would fall to them to see that you took a close-up of someone shooting or throwing a Molotov. That is why you must have a certain understanding, distance and understand the privacy of these unknown people in a tense situation, since they react more instinctively than as civilized people, that is, do not expect that they are going to dialogue with you, they will throw you the camera to the ground at once (it all depends on how you deal with the situation)

The smoke from the tear gas, have a fatal effect when inhaled, it blocks the breath, boots, tears, mucus, you suffocate horrible ... Therefore, if you do not have an oxygen mask, that is, those masks with filters, and you cannot bear to inhale anything of smoke or you panic, DON'T ever put yourself first, you will miss the action, it's true, but that is preferable to lying on the floor passed out with camera in hand ...

Lots of things can happen. A friend documenting when the civilians fell back, he stood still photographing, it turns out that the Gnb advanced and grabbed him and others from the press, the others had their cameras broken, a man from a tv station was thrown his credentials, they beat them, they made my friend's other colleague do squats with a rubber on top and I no longer remember if it is the same case in which they were put in a military tank and detonated a tear gas inside, there is a case like that but I really don't remember if it was this. These things happen a lot and I still can't figure out why. In spite of this, I must add that once I was walking home and I saw people running down the street when the GNB came by motorcycle, so I'm not an asshole, I ran too, they didn't open the door to me. A nearby house and I stayed outside, several GNBs inspected me and gave me back the camera at a point that I was alone (with the people from the houses watching), and well this was the last day that I participated with a camera since I considered it to be a A sign of life, a gnb (military guard) would never give you back a camera (and less with its reputation for corruption), but hey I suppose the leader of that group was not so bad ...

In other contexts of protests, normally when there are a large number of civilians and a confrontation occurs, for a graphic example, in a wide street, in which one side is at one end and the military police officers with their armored cars from another (so was my friend's context I mentioned earlier). In this case it was not like that and this made the situation much more dangerous, since practically this experience was in a small city, in which the dimensions of the streets and everything is on a smaller scale, therefore each corner is possible an attack, therefore here you must be willing to run and never get tired. If you are out of shape and you can't run a block without your heart leaking out of your chest, DO NOT ATTEND these things.

In this context of locality, the first time that so many Protestants were seen, I think that a thousand of this small town can pass, I was a little ahead of what was initially a march, but I remember that when we were reaching the retention point in which the officials had a barrier preventing the passage, I called a friend to see where I was, and she was miles behind and told me that there were still people there and they were advancing to where I was, incredible !. Then I suppose that some high command got tired of having so many people in the street and sent the order to shoot to disperse, since as I told them I saw everything and the environment was not hostile (but I knew it was only a matter of time for some of the two sides attacked or something happened), as soon as they released the first tear gas I had to move to a safe area on one side since that detonation and those that came later were very unexpected. After that the battle began ...

The battle covered almost all the streets of the perimeter, at this moment I tried to continue my work of documenting but in the face of so much dispersion and so many attacks from all sides it was a very dangerous situation, I tried but I think it also implied that my zoom of the objective It is limited, therefore I had to get closer to the stage and this left me exposed, until I had to take shelter in a house since on the side where I was, people dispersed and where many people were struggling I still feared that in walking Those streets alone could something happen to me, that and that I was already very tired, I was hungry, I already had many good photos and also that at that time there were already armed civilians from the socialist party (they were not armed or at least as far as I know, but their fame is that they are armed better than the police), and well I decided that my intense day was over. Unfortunately later I learned that at the end of the day a minor Protestant died from a shot to the head ...

I would do it again

_No, I think that when things are abused in life there is a greater probability that something negative will happen to you and to continue doing it would already be an abuse, besides, it did not bring me any benefit that interests me, so no, no I would do it again, but I also do not regret having contributed my grain of sand in this and other ways in the large-scale civic protests that my country had.
