A Week in Review ~ Sublime Sunday

avatar

Sunday, #sublimesunday. So it's actually Monday Japan time, but it's still Sunday in some places, so we should be good. Besides, @c0ff33a gave me the ok to post late last week.

I'm not in the best condition today, to be honest, so I thought instead of searching my brain for something new I'll give a look and summery at the past week of posts. No worries, rather than just give links to my posts from last week I'll add the photos and poems to this post

In Japan the cherry blossoms continue to come out. Some varieties are full or fading already, and others are preparing to come out in full. Last week I shared his photo of one of the early varieties, the Kawazu Cherry Blossoms.

Lovely flowers—and they really are everywhere, as that photo suggests.

The city will light up the blossoms at night in a few weeks when the main kind, Yoshino Cherry, blooms. Until then, there are other things to enjoy at night. My city may be small, in it still has a decent cityscape in places.

A short poem of sorts to go with the image:

beyond time
you'll find it there
a city standing
on the edge
of forever

Om shanti shanti shanti
ॐ शान्तिःशान्तिःशान्तिः

In addition to the blossoms and the sky, spring also brings us the Uguisu, one of the sounds of spring.

A woodblock print of an uguisu.

And a haiku I wrote while listening to their song:

Friend Uguisu
your music is
the gift of spring

鶯啼いて春のプレゼント

The Japanese version is very much in the style of my favorite haiku poet Santōka. I wrote a brief post about him some weeks ago.

To give you an idea of what an uguisu sounds like, watch this:

I also posted last week about all the faces we can see around Japan. Yikes! Too many photos to repost here (go read the full post to see them all), but here's a sample.

I also posted about some of my early Bitcoin experience, or rather how I missed the chance to get several of the coins back around 2010 or so. Ah... well, that's life, eh? A Tale of Woe

That's about all, I see. My actual Sunday yesterday was a good one. We enjoyed the outdoors. There was a large earthquake nearby and many are warning of the big one, but... well, they are always warning of the big one.

I have another cherry blossom photo to post. I was going to throw it up today, but my head is killing me and this post is about all I can manage, so it'll have to wait till tomorrow. Keep an eye peeled if you are interested.

Hope y'all had or are having a great Sunday too!!

Hi thereDavid LaSpina is an American photographer and translator lost in Japan, trying to capture the beauty of this country one photo at a time and searching for the perfect haiku.

HEY HEY, blossoms not looking so lush around my area yet! Always good to come across another foreigner living in Japan!

Yeah that quake was a shaker, getting a little more intense each time.

@dmilliz - Hey, good to hear from you. Totally—I'm always happy to meet other foreigners here.

Most aren't that nice yet. The someiyoshino haven't even budded yet, and some of the others have only just started. The kawazu zakura always bloom around feb, though, at least here (around Nagoya).

Whereabouts are you located?
