I'm sharing my views in the POB-WOTW "Ego". Like every other thing in this world, this world also has many connotations and perspectives. I've read the perspectives of others on this word and respect each one's view. I, however, differ a bit and would like to talk about how important having an ego is.

Ego is mostly talked about in a negative connotation and is considered ill-feeling. Normally, it's not the ego that's negative. Ego is just a personality trait; it is our thoughts that are negative that make us behave in a particular way. A person is nothing without a personality and ego forms a very important and crucial part of one's personality.

When we talk about Ego, it's how one identifies himself. Ego is our sense of belief in "I, Me, Myself." And there's nothing wrong with that. It's a characteristic trait wherein one relates everything to themselves and gives a reaction based on how they perceive things. So relating you ourselves is not wrong but a negative reaction or perception of things is what is considered wrong and mistook as ego at all times.

One can never get rid of their ego, it's a train that defines who we are. But one should let go of their ego. Letting go of ego means understanding the other person's perspective, trying to fit in their shoes, showing some compassion, and finally giving more heed to their point of view than yours.

If you are trying to get rid of your ego, you are just trying to manipulate your mind in the current scenario which might work for now but fail in other situations. You will not be able to get rid of your ego all the time because it is within you, you feel it. Getting rid of is like a fight that only losers can win.

When we try to get rid of something, we tend to stick to it even more. Like when you ask a child not to eat or do something, they will make sure they do it because it activates the inquisitiveness inside them. They get curious to know what will happen if they do it. Similarly, if you try to fight your ego, your mind will fight back to understand where you are wrong. But when you decide to let go, your mind understands that this your need and thus gives at the moment.

Stop thinking of ego as en evil because it's not. It's a powerful feeling that makes you feel in a certain way and helps you identify yourself which is necessary for survival. Just don't let it come in way of your personal or professional life.

It's good to see your post in defense of the ego. It seems to me, lots of time the ego - that is the sense of self - is misunderstood, assuming it lacks compassion or relatability, simply because its job is to look out for oneself. But I believe it is because the ego is usually looked down on, that many people suffer with feelings of self worth. Thanks for countering this tendency with your well written post.

Thank you for your kind words. It’s all about perception, as I mentioned above. Ego is not a bad thing, it’s all about how we feel it.
