Coconut is a widely used ingredient in South Indian dishes, it gives a unique aroma and taste. Coconut chutney is a south Indian condiment that can be used with idli, dosa, vada, uttapam or any other south Indian dish. It’s like the Italian salsa.

Coconut chutney is made using fresh coconut which is easily available in the market. Once can make it simply with just coconut, green chillis and salt or can choose to enhance the flavour by adding other ingredients like chana dal (Bengal gram), ginger and tempering of mustard seeds and curry leaves. Some people also add mint to it which gives it a very refreshing taste. So you can modify it here and there as per your taste. It requires not more than 10 minutes and if you have this chutney with your south Indian food, you don’t need any other item like sambhar too. It works really well.

Let’s see how we make it.

I've never tasted coconut chatney before. In north eastern India, coconut oil is mostly used for oiling ones hairs. Thanks for the recipe that you provided. Will surely make it soon. But I can't be sure if it'll taste same as yours 😀
