Paradox - POB Word of the Week

When I reflect on society I can see a paradox between the east and west worlds. The paradox between 1984 in China and The Brave New World in North America and Europe.

I don't mean to be such a contrarian as I could be misunderstanding your meaning but I think that this isn't a paradox. A paradox is something that contradicts itself. When considering east vs west, I would label that phenomenon as a schism, dichotomy or dialectic since they're separate entities

The eastern and western cultures don't contradict each other?

Humanity would be contradicting itself.

Contradicting each other isn't a paradox. Paradoxes are self contradictory

I think it fits the definition. Society is the paradox.

Hence the society, that both exist within, making them contradictory.

I would consider them separate societies due to the differences but I understand what you mean so I guess it's just a 'meta' paradox now

Well we can now continue this conversation of this post well beyond a week.

Should we revisit this comment thread on a regular basis on work on our thesis statement for "What is a Paradox"?

I think this is what excites me the most about this beautiful I have the intriguing word "Paradox", it must be taken subjectively since not all thoughts are the same, I think that this particular entry will leave a lot to learn, I am already anxious to see what my colleagues will bring this week in each post! It will be a week full of good stories about that I have no doubt, since judging by the last entry there is a lot of talent here in #POB

I think I get the picture

China is in its 1984 just as the writer George Orwell, wrote the novel, "The Animal Farm". Most times, I wonder why China monitors that many millions of people on a daily basis while other countries are promoting freedom of speech, and interaction, they restrict theirs/

What in the world are they afraid of? That the people like the animals in the story will rise against them? I mean governments are supposed to be very powerful that no one disputes them, but they are clearly showing a weakness

Is it that they are not capable of ruling, and they are afraid they will be overthrown? How then were they thinking, the USA will hand over the world power to them, if they are too scared to rule in the first place

This is a typical paradox, and I will end by saying "Hats off to the Chinese for bringing George Orwell’s dystopia to life."

I consider it essential reading for new Hive users regardless of whether we agree on it, the way it explains the political situation and consensus is important. In a way we are engaged in an experiment in True freedom here on Hive. And I like the idea of decentralized autonomous communities.

Yeah you pretty much see what I see. The Brave New world is over here pretending it isn't terrified of everything it started.

I am glad that I could see your point, darling, thank you for making me remember that book, "The Animal Farm"

A really low effort post, with a picture that doesn't fit the subject of it, gets this many votes and interactions...

This is truly a paradox in POB! Cudos on this achievement!

54 is nothing in regards to my average votes.

I will go support some of your work if you feel you are not getting the credit you deserve.

Hey mate, don't get me wrong, in my opinion you should win this contest.

You didn't write about a paradox, you created one! Can't be more original than that!

Normally low effort posts like this one get 10 votes max, and almost no interaction. That's why I found it interesting. And for a tribe that values effort on posting, this result really is paradoxical.

Thanks for your support!
Let's keep growing together!

Yeah, the contrast is really sharp. Also quite surprising how different these two regions can be in this modern age.

I like parts of both, but am fearful of parts of both at the same time. The parts I fear are the most contrasting aspects of each culture, the greed in America and the poverty in china both terrify me.
