My Journey Through the Past, Present and Future

I thought this picture of me passing through a rock arch was a good representation of where I feel I am right now. Thanks to my daughter for the timely click of the shutter. :)

The Past

Most of my adult life was spent doing the things that societal norms said you should do. Somehow though I always felt like something wasn't quite right. In fact even in my late teens I resisted the pressures to join the work a day world and all that comes with it. At the time I didn't have the capacity to see or find a different way and I succumbed to the pressures and did the "right thing".

Now don't get me wrong it wasn't all bad. I have two wonderful kids that I love and the times we had together I wouldn't trade for anything. There were times in my work that I truly enjoyed and I learned a lot of new skills. That feeling of there being a better way never really left me though.

Finally after thirty odd years of making some tweaks to my routine and trying to work with in the system I decided to leave it all behind. Quit my job, sold my house, and moved away from an area I had lived in for over 40 years. I didn't have much in the way of a plan other then to do some part time work live off my house proceeds and wait for some retirement funds to kick in.

In 2016 I got a little more serious about an old hobby, photography. Never the fan of Facebook or the like and ignorant about cryptocurrency, I looked for somewhere to share my hobby and maybe make a little money. I ran across a platform called Steem but some of my old ways persisted and I didn't join for another year and a half. Now there is a decision I wish I had back. :)

The Present

So now I have been on Hive a little over three years. The original reason for joining (sharing photos for money) has evolved into a full fledged Web 3.0/cryptocurrency obsession. I have a little BTC and add a little more every now and then but it will probably in itself never be life changing for me.

I feel that what's going on in the Hive ecosystem... POB, LEO, CubDefi and the whole Web 3.0 movement and beyond is where things will change for me. In fact they already have. Learning and earning on Hive has already become a part time job for me in my retirement. Probably the most exciting and rewarding job I have ever had. :)

The Future

I will keep moving forward with what I have been doing. I will look for more ways to generate passive income to relieve day to day financial worries, spread the word to attract others to join and help make them successful in this new world. And yes, if there is enough, maybe even spend a little on some unnecessary things just to enjoy life a bit. :)

Like the picture shows, I feel like I'm walking through a doorway leading me to a bright new future and that better way I was always looking for.I think the future will find me better off financially and more mentally well than I ever was in the socially controlled work a day world.

Thanks for reading and enjoy your day!

Inspiring stuff for a lad over here in his mid-twenties. I like how you took control of your position in this world and decided to up sticks from everything you knew (especially after 40 years of being in the same place). It sounds like there is still plenty more to come in your retirement, and by the looks of it, you're in a beautiful place to enjoy it all.

It took a while but this is probably the longest stretch of sustained happiness I have ever experienced.

Finally after thirty odd years of making some tweaks to my routine and trying to work with in the system I decided to leave it all behind.

This is truly inspiring and a really bold move to do. I felt the same way when I decided to live on the road, so I can relate a lot to this feeling, and it makes me happy to remember this now.

It's good that you got back to something that you like and now even have a new passion. I can't wait to read what comes next! I really like your photos!

Thanks for sharing!
Keep posting and keep shining!

Well the kids were grown and retirement and some funding that goes with it were fairly close. It was a calculated risk and sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision. In the end I found ways to get by and like I said I'm a pretty happy guy most of the time now. :)

What is right for us is what does us good and not what society imposes on us. Everyone should learn and have the courage to be more "rebellious" to be able to live their lives the way they really want (something that you seem to have done very well).

Exactly! We are all different and for the most part we are herded into the same narrow existence in order to be classified a "success". It took me a while to get there but hopefully blockchain and crypto will give people a better chance to find their own success in their own way.

I also have a lot to learn in Hive and about Hive.
I liked your timeline article.
Let's hope the same for all of us, the future will improve our lives. Will take us out of old paradigms of thinking and behaving and will allow us more freedom of thinking, of choosing what we like to do, and unity, making us better one for another!
I am in Hive because it stands for a few of my personal values as well.
Hugs!

Nicely written! That is my hope as well. :)

Guy! What a story

I like to read when people find themselves in what they always want and have not been stuck in the "system".

I take the opportunity to call you to the contest that I'm doing. I want to read stories like that. HIVE, LEO and Ecency Points are worth

I would like to see your story.

Contest here

Thank you!

It has been a long journey to this point with a lot of self doubt about what I was doing. Now I move forward with a lot more self confidence in the direction I have chosen to go. :)

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

Certainly. Doubts will always be there when we make decisions like that.

It will be 8 years ago that I changed my way of living too. Has it been easy? No! But it's been happier and that's what matters to me ^^
