Meditation, a Hike, and a Gift From The Universe - Sedona AZ
This is a story of a short hike and what was probably my first conscious attempt at meditating some 10 years ago. This was a turbulent time in my life and a lot of changes were taking place for me. While I was still in the work a day world and would be starting a new job soon (short lived but a whole other story) I was kind of on my own for the first time in a lot of years. Kids were grown and I was with out a spouse or girlfriend. This was a solo trip and I was ready to make some changes. 😀

I chose Sedona because of its reputation of energy vortexes and spiritual healing. For a long time I had felt the way I was living my life wasn't right and I was ready to really start opening myself up to some change.
As I closed in on the end of the box canyon, engulfed in the beauty and peacefulness of it all, I was amazed by the sheer amount of greenery surrounding me on the canyon floor.
Finally I had reached the end of the canyon and these were the views looking back down the trail from my position on a large boulder. Fortunately a group of people had just left and I was alone at the end of the canyon... or so I thought.
I began my rookie attempt at meditation with some deep breathing and clearing of the mind. Suddenly the end of the box canyon was filled with the sound of Indian flute music. Knowing that I probably hadn't raised my awareness enough to be experiencing another plane of existence, I began to look around the canyon looking for the source. If you look in the bottom left of the above picture you cans see the two people that were making the music.
So for the next fifteen minutes or so I continued to meditate with the sound of the flutes echoing on the canyon walls around me. It was an incredible experience that helped me develop a meditation routine that I continue today. It felt like the universe was showing me a path and I did not hesitate to follow. Since that time meditation has helped me with my journey to who I am today... quite a different person from 10-15 years ago.
Thanks for reading and enjoy your day!

Gorgeous views. I guess I'm not in the know; I wasn't aware of Sedona's reputation. I have been thinking of visiting, however, because an ex was from there and it sounds like a beautiful place. Now I wonder exactly what is drawing me!
A quick Google search of Sedona vortexes should give you a lot of info. :)
On the map where I show the trail the little development above the trail is the resort where I stayed. Kachina Women is one of the vortexes right near by.
Incredible place, you can feel the good energy, very attractive for a long and quiet walk.
I am hoping to get back there some day. There is a whole lot more to see. :)
That is really a beautiful place! Just from the photos you can feel the energy and the peace from mother earth.
YES! Solo tripping is one of the best ways to get to know yourself and make some changes within.
It's crazy how the universe is always sending us signs, but most of the time we are too busy inside our heads. Good thing that you didn't hesitated, and could enjoy this opportunity.
I really enjoy your posts and your photos! Thank you very much!
Keep posting and keep shining!
Thank you and you are welcome!
I really want to do a return trip! So much more to see and experience. It probably wouldn't be a solo trip this time though. :)
It really did start to open my mind to paying more attention to the things and events going on around me, no matter how small. I started to look to see if there was a bigger message guiding me to a new path.
simple amazing! I love that place, I have some feeling that I lives around there in a past life, im very apassionated to the nativeamerican people that lives here in the past, my university final work was about antrophological and ethnical photograpy so I had to learn a lot about that tribes and theirs awesome people! They have a lot of sacred wisdom! so that kind of energy its very deep for meditate and heal and recharge energies! :D beautiful post
Thank you!
I wish I had more insight into the cultural history of the area. I think it was the Yavapai that were present in the area but haven't done much research on that. You may have more information on that than I do. :)
Even being new to the openness it takes to absorb that type of energy, I returned from that trip revitalized and with a whole new outlook on the future. :)
Yes the city are too contaminate sometimes or the modern world strees. It's awesome to scape.
Let me give to You My art work is in spanish but I think that You can translate that. Is a PDF link

Such a fantastic and beautiful place for hiking, @oldmans!
Damn it! I miss my hiking days. =/
It certainly was! I was able to get a couple hikes in but there was so much more I didn't get to. I am hoping for a return trip some day. :)
That must have been such a trip lol. It sounds like one hell of an experience, especially given the atmosphere that must have been present with you being solo. Have you considered going and doing a solo trip like this since?
I did quite a few solo hikes around that time. Of course none with Indian flute music during meditation. :)
I did try to challenge myself though with some exposed hikes with shear drop offs. I like being up a high and having expansive views but to close to an edge and I get a little nervous. lol.
Those exposed hikes sound exciting, nothing like a bit of arse-clenching action to make the walks more interesting lol. I enjoy rock climbing, well bouldering to be more specific, and I'd like to eventually get to a point where I can go on hikes and go for the odd climb here and there.
I live near Smith Rock State Park which is a pretty big area for rock climbing here in the US (also great for hikes). There are also numerous other smaller bouldering areas around also. With all the volcanic type terrain here there are probably areas that haven't even been tried yet.
For me, while I am all about new experiences, at this point I think I'll keep my feet on the ground while hiking. Except for an occasional small rock scramble. :)
Damn, that sounds like a dream for me. One day I'll find a place similar to rest my head, hopefully, the world doesn't implode before I get there lol.
