I AM AN IDEA THIEF

"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research."

-Steven Wright

Not so long ago, I was accused of plagiarism or idea theft. I was taken aback because this is the first time I am getting such a comment since I started writing blogs (that's roughly about a decade now).

The article in question started with a quote by one of my mentors, Jordan Peterson. I happen to listen to him a lot and a lot of other orators. They influence my thoughts and writing. So it is not strange if I sound or write like them. You become what you pay attention to eventually…

"There is no such thing as an original idea."
-Mark Twain

This post in its entirety is a summation of ideas and thoughts that have been regurgitated and refined over time. There isn't anything new about this post per se. I am certain several people have spoken on the same subject.

The major difference between this post and the countless number of posts on this same subject is my not-so-unique perspective. My perception is based on my experience in relation to an idea. This is why I create opinion pieces. I am not an authority on anything but I do have my unique point of view.

We talk about the same things every day here on hive: love, crypto, bull/bear runs, etc. We talk about these things every day and it even gets boring. I have read enough Cub related posts that would last me a lifetime. I can say the same about posts discussing hive, leofinance, pob, etc

To be honest, there are times I feel like I have discussed all I could imagine. But then again that is not enough. I have listened to Gary V say almost the same thing for the past two years and I am certain it will continue the same way until he discovers something new.

However, I still listen to Gary. I listen to him because whenever I do I get a new perspective on the same idea. So you can never exhaust an idea. There are so many ways you examine it.

There are millions of songs about love and heartbreak but it doesn't change how you feel about a new one, esp by an artiste you like. It might be the same message but a different lyric or voice that captures your heart.

Away from the content creation world, even in the technology industry, we see a lot of idea theft. For example, we have thousands of blockchain projects but it all started from one--bitcoin.

The idea that brought bitcoin into fruition has been used to create other projects with unique characteristics but they are fundamentally the same as bitcoin. This explains why bitcoiners think altcoins are shitcoins.

In a nutshell, I am encouraging you to go out there and steal as many ideas as possible. Put them all together and create something new. This is how we create and innovate. Cheers!

P.s I got the idea for this post from a comment that is less than 50 words.

The coolest projects come out of a brainstorm or whirlwind of ideas, so read, research and document enough to come up with the Big Idea.

Unlike most people i don't wait for a great idea to hit me. I go out in search of them and when i do find something i tend to connect the dots with other ideas i stumble upon

Lol..why not create your own ideas and let others steal it....that is a better mindset......but you made valid points though....

If you haven't watched it, "Everything is a Remix" on youtube covers this idea. Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJPERZDfyWc&list=PLDQ6BYd73QHxgeNJPX8yZRcp8wF_B_tph

One great writer (I forget who) wrote that there are only seven original stories in the world, everything else is just stealing and rewriting them.

Then of course we have the famous Picasso line: "Good artists copy; great artists steal."
