Their Protest Turned Progress

avatar

Happy new week Hive Planet. Four years ago, a group of about a hundred junior secondary students protested on the streets in a village somewhere in West Africa. They practically had no roof over their school building, yet they were posted to resume there as secondary school students. Every rural community, no matter how depopulated also need infrastructural facilities like clinics or primary health center, school library, security post, pipe-borne water, and other social amenities.
This protest lasted only a few hours but the cries of the kids received little or no attention. A few minutes after the protest ended, some young entrepreneurs decide to raise a fund for the school. The fundraiser started as a very minute measure to ameliorate the issue of poor classroom structure.
This is the village where the school is located. This photo is taking today after I had visited the school a year ago.

Life in general here is lived on a crude level. The major source of income here for dwellers is agriculture. Some farm settlements had been established here within the time under study. Poultry, pig farms, fish farm, and crop farmers have invaded this place. A lot of capital investment is ongoing and life here is becoming sub-urban.

The more you look, the less you see. Every corner of this village shows how much vulnerability there is. People live in some of the dreaded homes. With this big crack on the wall, you are sure to have reptiles crawling in on you at intervals. I perceive that people here want more than what they have and on the other hand, they just might have adapted to the whole thing that bugs us.

It has been four years now. The school received huge donations from philanthropists. And now, the functional teaching-learning process is smoothly going. The widow's might of the most vulnerable people was able to go this length to give a befitting school setting to some hundred students who protested that their right to quality education was trampled.

This is a solar power generation room that supplies electricity to the school. Since the teaching profession is going technology where smart boards, projectors, and other gadgets would be used in classes, the need for a power supply arose. This effort will make learners from the grassroots compete favorably with their counterparts in developed societies. The results for the gigantic work have started rolling in.

We can proudly call this a school and even post their concrete notice board for all to see. Enrolment here had been poor four years ago but events have taken a turn after the reconstruction of the modern facility.

As we concluded our visit. I notice this growing Anthill. We had students insects in Biology back in school. Social animals they were referred to. The soldiers, workers and the queen that lays the eggs. I hope you'd remember this too. Tamitarium!!!

Glad that those entrepreneurs made the effort to get funds and the children today have a new and comfortable facility today to study in.
Hope every village gets the same or even better kind of attention and facilities.

Communal effort is generating positive vibe for communities if will managed. Some dubious characters have made the process elsewhere, ugly.
However, it will be a good idea if more entrepreneur will genre resources together for such ideals.
Thanks for your constructive contributions @sofs-su

I'm glad to see how everything turned out because it shows that no effort is a waste and that people's voice can still be heard even if the voice turns out to be a tiny little voice of kids. I know of some communities where these kids could be tagged as tyrants.

When they were doing their protest, a lot of people would have looked at them as people that do not know what they are doing but their efforts is now putting a smile on hundreds of other people's faces.

This is fabulous indeed.
It's a nice piece of motivation for all readers

Wow, I love protest that gives positive results, not the looting and destructive ones we have seen these days.

And for the fund raising, that's a whole new idea of generating funds to meet human needs of health and the likes.
Since the government is no longer responsible we can all come together to donate funds that will meet the needs of our communities.

We take responsibility as much as needed by neighbours, friends and relatives. We should lend a helping hand to one another.
