Effort And Success | Is There An Assurance That Effort Would Lead To Success?
You must have heard a lot of wise quotes about success. Did you also hear that "effort determines success?".
There is no doubt about our desire to be successful. Just like every other successful people, I want to also share my success story in due time. I've tried many options in my desire to attain success. Coming across this quote gives me a sort of reassurance that success awaits me if l can make effort.
The idea of effort and success has been a motivational piece to a lot of people. I like it because it's as reasonable as supposed.
It is a quote that cuts across various scenarios. It has general applicability and I'm about to show you why;
Students know this
They know what it means to make effort to earn a good grade. Most of them pull all-nighter whenever they have a project to pursue. Some consistently burn their night candles while others are sleeping. They read consistently and attend their lectures. They want to succeed as scholars so, they make effort and look forward to their success.
Parents also know this
When you see parents working off their ass and doing two or more jobs in a day, it shows how much they are ready to grow their finance to be able to provide all that is needed by their family. The irony about these parents is, they don't mind spending all the money on the needs of their kids. As far as their kids are happy, they would also feel successful.
Amidst all this, l want you to know that many people are still struggling despite giving their best at all times.
Is There An Assurance That Effort Would Lead To Success?
It's a pity but the truth remains that there are instances where people make effort without attaining success -Not all effort leads to success. This is why some students fail to succeed despite reading so much.
The worst part of this is to experience when kids are exposed to hardship due to inability of their parents to take good care of them.
In most cases, their parents turn out to be very hard-working yet, they don't earn enough to fend for their kids.
This calls for concern.
If effort doesn't guarantee success, what else can we do to succeed?
Perhaps, we can take solace in assuming that other factors can serve as a constraint to success. We can also adopt any other assumption that makes us feel better.
Conclusion
I've noticed that the connection between effort and success is very visible for anyone that succeeds in one area or another. Inverse is the case for people who feel that they worked hard without succeding.
Irrespective of people's stance on the subject matter, it is important to note that making effort would not guarantee success in 10 out of 10 cases.
There are times when your effort will grant you success so, be grateful for such moments and hope for the best when it seems as if your hard work is not paying off.

As I said on another post, this is something many people do not consider, they only hear of the success stories and persuade themselves they will be successful if they keep high effort.
This is the survivor bias and I really want to educate people about it. Survivor bias is a form of selection bias that overstates the likelihood of success of an initiative by focusing attention on successful subjects who are statistical exceptions ("survivors") rather than representative cases.
In the end I am not trying to discourage people from putting effort, I think they should. I just want them to be aware that it might not be sufficient, which is a pity as you said. If they are aware, it likely will hurt them less.
Your affirmation of my content is very precise. I like it for a lot of reasons. Most importantly, l like it because it is not written with a clouded judgment.
Truth is, l can't stand failure. I don't like being around while hard-working people swim in an ocean of failure but, l also know that no matter how hard people work, most of the times, it becomes like a wasted effort because their effort just doesn't lead them to Success.
I'm sure that l haven't heard of survivor bias but l can relate to the ideas behind it.
We can't just limit our thoughts to only a positive outcome. Yeah, optimistism is a thing but we shouldn't be blinded by it.

But you know, I like optimism and I'm a very optimistic person. I think that even if effort does not lead you to success, it is not a waste.
It brings so much, from discipline and knowledge to mental force.
We could even go deeper by trying to define what is success.
Let's widen our scope, and try to be more and more lightly lit by accumulating knowledge.
