Why You Should Do What You Can...Today!

I normally do a post every Monday where I find a nice slogan/thought for the week and then do a post based on that.

I find it inspirational for myself to actually take these thoughts and then put them into practice and I hope it will do the same for others too.

Yesterday, I missed this week's post though, and couldn't get it published in time. But the reason for not publishing yesterday inspired me to do this post today.

Do It Now!

Have you ever found yourself wanting to do something, but you keep on postponing? It might be something exciting, but maybe, for some reason, it's challenging to get started. So it typically becomes... "I'll do it tomorrow" or "I'll start working on it next week".

"Tomorrow" more than often becomes "next week" which becomes "next month" etc...

If only we can create the habit of getting started...and getting started now!

Once we have put in the effort to get started, we immediately start making progress, whether we realize it or not. If something is not working according to plan, it is only once we get started that we can realize it. Only then can we start making changes to work towards achieving the desired result.

Once we start seeing results and progress, it becomes easier to keep up the motivation levels to carry on with whatever it is we want to do or achieve.

We Don't Know What Tomorrow Holds.

This past weekend my oldest daughter took part in a half-marathon that was organized by the company she is working for.

They followed a route along the coastline from Durban (where they started) to Umhlanga Rocks (where they finished).

We went out to support her along the way and I got some nice photos of the ocean and the activity of some fishermen at the same time...

Good Morning.jpg

We had a wonderful time as a family and we even had the privilege of both our grandchildren spending the weekend with us at our new home where we moved in recently.

Sunday night, from our front door, I was able to get a nice photo of the moon to confirm a peaceful end to a wonderful weekend.

Peacefull Evening.jpg

Yesterday morning it was all back to normal. I was getting busy with my daily activities when I heard some noise outside.

We are living in a complex where we moved into recently. We specifically decided to move into a complex where there are several houses fenced in together for safety reasons. We are the first house as you enter the property through an automated gate.

As I looked out the window, I saw a vehicle parked in the gate, preventing it from closing. Into the property, right in front of our driveway, I saw a man who was busy assaulting the driver of another vehicle. I turned around, rushing towards our front door. I wanted to go out to try and put a stop to this chaos. But as I turned around I heard a gunshot. I turned back to look through the window again. I saw the aggressor standing with the gun in his hand, and the other person lying on the ground.

Long story short...the whole incident was caused by road rage. The one driver (let's call him the victim - who happened to also be a resident in the same complex as us), apparently irritated the other driver for some reason on the road. As he entered through the gate the "aggressor" followed him and parked his car in the gate before he could get the gate to close. It ended up in a fight which ended with a shot being fired. Thank goodness, the victim wasn't hit by the bullet. The aggressor jumped in his vehicle and sped off.

So, after getting the chaos back under control and getting emergency services out to attend to the victim, the rest of the day was taken up by statements to the police, etc., etc...

To think, 24 hours before this incident, we were playing with our grandkids (2 and 4 years old respectively) in our garden. Where we were playing with them is about 3 to 4 meters away from where this whole drama took place.

Besides the traumatic experience it would have been for such small children...what if one of them got hit by a bullet. And here we are...thinking we are safe...at home, fenced-in, inside a complex.

Enjoy Every Moment.

We shouldn't live in fear. My family and I most definitely refuse to live in fear. I will do everything in my power to ensure our safety, but there are things that are beyond our control. But to live in fear of that which we cannot control is a waste of good energy.

Events such as what I described here are not happening every day. Well...I suppose you can say they are, but at least it's not happening to us as individuals every day...lol. The fact is, none of us know what tomorrow will bring.

So, do today what you can do today. Make the most of it and enjoy it. I'm sure if we keep making the most of every day and enjoy it, we will soon start reaping the fruits of making the best of every day and it will inevitably lead to success beyond our expectations.

There you have it. I didn't do my usual Monday post with a positive thought. But today, I did this post about why I missed out on that. And in all honesty, I already feel better by just getting all the frustration out of my system through writing this post.

I hope it will inspire you too to make the best of every day!
