Thursday 4th February 2021 a day to mark world cancer day.
Based on mortality rate, Cancer is ranked among the top diseases from around the world. According to World health organization, 17 people die every minute from cancer.

Cancer is a group of disease that result when there is an abnormal cells growth in the human body with the potential to spread to other parts of the body

CASES OF CANCER

The most common cases of cancer are breast cancer, lung and bronchus cancer, prostate cancer, colon and rectum cancer, melanoma of the skin, bladder cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, kidney and renal pelvis cancer, endometrial cancer, leukemia, pancreatic cancer, thyroid cancer, and liver cancer

In men, prostrate lung and colorectal cancer are the most common of cases which according to statistics account for 45% of all cases.
For women breast, lung and colorectal cancer are the most common of cases which account for 50% of all cases.

CAUSES OF CANCER

There is no single cause of cancer as there are several and variant causes associated with cancer. Some of the most common and widely known causes are:

• Smoking and tobacco
• Radiation
• Viruses and infection
• High fat diet
• Genetic disorder

Other not too common causes include

• Exposure to certain viruses
• Environmental factors such as exposure to pesticides and fertilizer.

SYMPTOMS

Different forms of cancer do have thier own symptoms that are specific to each of but some symptoms may cut across several forms or type of cancer. These symptoms include

• Lump
• Abnormal bleeding
• Change in bowel movement
• Unexplained weight loss
• Prolonged cough
• Abnormal period or pelvic pain
• Bloating for a longer period of time
• Chronic headache
• Persistent fatigue
• Stomach pain or nausea.

Some patient have unexplained fever, abnormal bumps, night sweats.

Treatment

Early detection of cancerous growth is very important when it comes to the treatment of the disease.

The most common form of cancer treatment I have heard of is chemotherapy. This is a type of cancer treatment that involves using drugs to kill cancer cells in the body.

Other forms of cancer treatment include

• Surgery: it's a form of cancer treatment in which doctors remove by way of surgery cancer cells from the body.

• Radiation therapy: this is a form of treatment that uses highh dosage of radiation to kill off cancer cells and also to shrink tumor growth

Other forms of treatment may be available which I may not know or be able to lay my hands on.
