Lotus Temple - A Symbol Of Unity

avatar

The coronavirus pandemic has made sure that everyone is under house arrest. Most people have nothing to do and under such circumstances, people always tend to renew old memories. Today, I spent the whole day trying to figure out what should I do after getting bored with studying. I was just browsing through the gallery of my phone and I found pictures of my recent visit to Lotus Temple located in the capital of India, New Delhi. It was about two months ago, I visited this place with a few friends but I almost forgot to post about it until today.

This is the famous lotus temple which has won plenty of awards for its beautiful architecture. It is made up of white marble standing 112 feet tall. It has nine doors and a big hall with a capacity of over 2500 people. This shot was taken at a very close distance from the temple. The entry is totally free for the locals but I guess the foreigners need to pay to enter the temple.

There is a very long lane from the gate which leads to the temple. The area around the temple is very huge, bigger than a football stadium. It can cost hundreds of thousands of people. As we entered the temple, we had to walk straight for around 20 meters and then take a left turn to reach this lane.

We moved to the left of the lane and clicked these pictures. There is plenty of open space on either side of the lane and there are some pine trees in that large garden that surrounds the lotus temple.

We moved towards the Lotus Temple and it took us a few minutes to reach the entrance. Lotus Temple looks more beautiful when you see it from a small distance. There were plenty of people coming out of the temple as we marched in.

The pond which you can see in front of the Temple is called the Lotus pond. It was surrounded by a number of people from different parts of the world. We waited for our turn to go inside and we had to form a queue to enter. As we entered, we saw a very large hall where people were sitting on the benches. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any more pictures as I was busy looking at the architecture and forgot to take out my phone. It looked very beautiful from inside.

We spent some time inside the hall but we couldn't stay longer as one of my friends had to catch a flight. I took this picture when we were leaving the Lotus Temple.

Lotus Temple is a place of worship for the "Bahai" religion. Lotus Temple was made open to the public in 1986 after it's construction. People from any religion or community can visit this temple which tells us that Bahai religion teaches unity and equality which is really hard to see in today's world.

I hope you liked the pictures.
