MY JOURNEY TOWARDS LEARNING SPANISH #2
It is presently almost 1am here and I am about going to sleep but before doing that, I made mention yesterday about making an everyday blog of the Spanish I learn on duolingo each day. I'm doing this to kill two birds with one stone, i.e. To keep myself serious in learning Spanish and also being active on Hive by blogging everyday. I'm going to make this quick because I am dozing off.
So I spent some time on the intro, phrases and travel session today.
What words I have learnt in Spanish
Spanish words | English translation |
---|---|
Buenos días | Good Morning |
Buenas tardes | Good Afternoon |
Buenas noches | Good evening / goodnight |
muchos gusto | nice to meet you |
Gracias | Thank you |
Adiós | bye |
Hola | Hello |
aquí | here |
Sentences I can form from the words above
Spanish words | English translation |
---|---|
Hola! Yo soy Emmanuel | Hello, I am Emmanuel |
Gracias, mucho gusto | Thanks, nice to meet you |
Adíos, buenas noches | Bye, Good night |
Hola! Buenos días, yo soy aquí | Hello, good morning, I am here |
From the images above, I learnt the use of esta and es. They both mean the word is but esta is used to say when someone or something is located and also when something is temporarily while es is to describe the quality of something or a person.
What sentences can I make with this
Spanish words | English translation |
---|---|
el banco está cerrado | The bank is closed |
¿Dónde está mi maleta? | Where is my suitecase |
el autobús es amarillo | The bus is yellow |
So those are the few things I have learnt and I hope to learn more as the day passes.

Excelente .
Excellent, congrats for your Spanish lessons. Learning a new language is always good, at first it can be complicated but we should not be scared by that.
Let me make an observation about this phrase:
TO BE verb in Spanish is translated as "ser" or "estar". "Ser" for qualities (Soy bueno / I'm good, Soy mayor / I'm older, Soy mujer / I'm a woman) and "Estar" to refer to being in places or states of mind (Estoy en Argentina/ I'm in Argentina, Estoy enojado / I'm angry, Estoy feliz / I'm happy),
The correct translation would be "yo ESTOY aquí", since you mean that you are in a place (here).
I hope I don't confuse you with this 😅
Yeah I totally get. Example for use of estar is like estoy en el aeropuerto while ser is yo soy un hombre. I got it right?
Exactly ❤️
Muy excelente! I took it in high school over here, and it has paid dividends my entire life. I'll have to check out duolingo. I have been wanting to learn Norweigian forever in case I am able to visit Norway in the future.

This is totally cool brother! I really appreciate that you're learning spanish because that's a beautiful language, you'll find many ways to describe things that you actually don't use in English haha
Probably you'll found a lot of words in Spanish for a lot of things that in English is just one word for everything, I hope that you go forward and start your life as a bilingual in the best way possible!
Good vibes and blessings from Venezuela!
