The coffee angel arrived.

This time it is morning. And my wife and I are going to have breakfast at Jose's bar.

It is a holiday, so there is no rush.

Of course, we have arranged to meet with Juan, who has already graduated as an engineer, and with the professor, that good friend with whom we have discussed wine and beer.

As it is already scheduled, we all arrive at the same time.

We called and immediately José greets with his wide smile that is shown even in his eyes.

Hello friends, here I have the table prepared for you. And the flowers for Ayarit as always.

The teacher has told us that we will talk about coffee.
And I tell him that every morning I take freshly brewed coffee to my wife in bed. With this phrase:
coffee angel arrived.

And immediately the teacher opens the topic:

Do you know we owe this to Kaldi? The shepherd who discovered coffee.

Ah, of course, love, says Ayarit, the Ethiopian who was a goat herder, and who played the flute every afternoon to call them back.

And you know that one afternoon they ignored him? Add Juancito, the now engineer.

Exact. They walked between crazy and happy. Jumping and running around.

And again the teacher: He realized that they were eating some berries, which he decided to try, and understood what had happened to the goats. It was the year 300.

And laughing, he comments that Kaldi got as crazy as those goats, hahaha

The aroma of machine coffee, as we say in Venezuela, permeates the place making an invitation impossible to reject.

José exclaims, I'm making you a cappuccino.

And the professor continues: From then on, the Ethiopians would make a tea with the boiled leaves. Only in the year 1400 they began to toast the berry and make it as we know it today.

That is one of the stories of the discovery of coffee. The other we will leave for another day.

The coffees arrive accompanied by small breads, and while I have one of these, I add: and the name is interesting, which would go from being the qahwa in Ethiopia to kahveh and finally to caffe in Italian.

José, brings us some shrimp to the garlic that they are waiting to be tasted.

Good company, I say with a mouth full of flavors and eyes as full of joy. The bread wheels with butter and garlic are the perfect complement to our shrimp.

So, with his mouth busy, there was a small silence that interrupts the first diner to swallow that first portion of the delicacy:
And then Juancito says: but in the seventeenth century he came to Europe through trade in Venice and Africa. Also in that century, I came to Asia by commercial routes.

And coffee generated fear in rulers and clergy, now exclaims the professor.

It was persecuted, and demonized. But, paradoxically, a Muslim king and a pope saved coffee's life.

It would arrive in America first on the island of Martinique, by the hand of the sailor Gabriel Mathieu in the year 1720.

From Martinique it was taken to different other islands such as Cuba and Jamaica, and then to the mainland with Jose Antonio Galabert Nicholas Lewis respectively as protagonists.

In 1790 he arrived in Mexico through the port of Veracruz.

In Venezuela, Spanish missionaries settled in the Caroní river basin in 1730, planting the first coffee tree.
the first coffee plantation is related to Chacao, which was a village by then. It was the year 1784, a year after the birth of the Liberator Simon Bolivar.
And by 1900, Venezuela ranks second as a world producer after Brazil.

In Colombia, on the contrary, its cultivation has been carried out since 1835, the grain began to be commercially cultivated in Norte de Santander. And they owe it in large part to a priest, whose penances to parishioners was planting coffee.
Only in 1850 did it reach In 1850 did it reach Cundinamarca, Antioquia and Caldas.
In other words, professor, that the history of coffee in Colombia is after independence and separation from La Gran Colombia.

It arrived in Brazil from the north in 1727, from French Guyana

It is carried by Sergeant-Mor Francisco de Mello Palheta at the request of the governor of Maranhão and Gran Pará. Its commercialization expands and becomes dynamic between 1850 and 1930, being the transformer of society.

And they say that the best coffee is in Colombia, Juan suddenly blurts out.

Look, Ayarit responds, that coffee is excellent. As Rodolfo says, Colombia seems to have no bad coffee.

But the Venezuelan is very good. In fact the seed is. And the roasted grain is delicious.

I think that oil earned coffee a place, as it earned cocoa.
Brazil, I think by industrializing and having a laboratory seed, produced a more resistant but less graceful seed.

Although by thus reducing its production costs, it dominates the world market.

Even in Ethiopia they drink Brazilian coffee.
Well friends, as it is tomorrow and we are already activated with this tasty coffee, Venezuelan, we say goodbye.

Remember the phrase:
The coffee angel arrived.
