HIVE Crystal - Following Jack's Share Tutorial

This time I wanted to go back to Photoshop and try something 2D. From time to time I need balance in my art journey. When I too focused on Zbrush and its black-and-white world I feel depressed. A bit more color in my life is always good.

So I went to pinterest to collect inspiration and possibly tutorials to try from. Pinerest is my number one source for creative ideas. But if you do it like me, try to come up with your original pieces do not copy or trace ^^ And if you are studying and learning like myself in this post, make sure to point it out clearly.

So this is a tutorial from "Jack's Share" he is an amazing artist. You can see his other tutorials online by a simple google search of tutorial's name. I found this cristal tutorial in pinterest which I want to learn from. But I didnt want to make it exactly the same since we are here on Hive , why not make it into a hive crystal? ^^

Here is some progress screenshots. Which you can see the original tutorial on the left. Search "Jack's Share tutorial " on google and you'll find lots of tutorials like this. I made couple of jack's tutorial in the past and shared here. I must say its been a long time since I paint something and I need more practice. I have hard time painting this piece.

The final shape's perspective didnt look quite good in my eye at the end. Using the warp tool of Photoshop I change it a little bit and correct the perspective. The main problem for me while doing this is I feel impatient. I think I lost my patient along the way in pandemic. Details are what makes the art good which i did not pay enough attention. This should be the draft to begin for a more advanced painting not a finished piece as I present here. I'll make more when I feel i am stronger. This is not always about your talent and what you can do, sometimes its about your mental state and emotions. Artist has to be complete.

The steps are pretty easy to follow. Although you have to have basic knowledge to follow these kind of tutorials. These are not for absolute beginners. Started with the base color and highlighted edges. I am using "Evenant's concept art brush pack" and specifically "textured brush 1 " in this piece.

Crystals seem like they're just hard to paint in general so you may have had an interesting time of it even if you weren't a bit rusty XD

And the outcome looks very magical :)

Maybe you can call it a completed sketch seeing as you didn't feel up to polishing it all the way :)
