I cant tell you enough how much I missed the zbrush. I missed the feeling of the digital clay building up on tip of my pen. It is magical to see the shapes transform in front of your eyes. For this stream I wanted to try and make Mind Flayer from Dungeons & Dragons. I saw @elwnyx drawing mind flayer in one of her last streams and wanted to give it a try in a different medium.

I love monsters, I love d&d and I love sculpting. When this much good thing come together with the longing of zbrush , its wonderfull. She is the first one to join our artist rank here in Hive from my twitch community. Make sure to check @elwnyx's twitch channel She is new on Hive go ahead to her first post to say hello

This is what I called in the stage of concepting, you may say 3d sketch phase. I am still exploring this creature and try to understand the soft muscle-like structure of his face. I am new to this creature and don't have basic understanding of the anatomy. This is me figuring it out while try to block the shapes. As I stated in the title this is a WIP ( work in progress )

Watch the Sculpting Video here

I am not sure if I want a whole body sculpture or just the head. This is more like a warm-up exercise for me to going back to zbrush after a break. I updated my software to the newer version, there are new features available me to explore. I still need to setup the new version UI and settings to my liking. While I sculpting this model I really struggled because my settings were messed up. I am glad I find another opportunity to use the Zpheres in this model too. One of the new features of the zbrush allow us to block shapes really quickly. If you are interested in the new baloon mesh feature I'll leave a video to explain it far better then I do.

This is a video from Pixologic's youtube channel. You may find time stamps in the description of the video but I want to write some of the related ones here.

40:36 Mesh from Mask: Mesh Balloon
47:14 Using Mesh Balloon to Quickly Block Out a Lion
50:20 Using MeshBalloon to Create Paper Cut Out Art

I am looking forward to experiement on the new feature and learn more about Mesh Balloon. Next stream I'll be continuing this model. See you next time. #3D

Mindflayer is a really dangerous race. But I also love them. They look like they're straight out of Lovecraft horror stories. If you encounter mind flayer one day while playing dnd, definitely run!

I gave up drawing after the streaming, but it's good that you started it. It looks really good.

yeah a friend told me while I was streaming, when you encounter a mindflayer, most likely you need a wisdom saving throw to see if you lose your sh*t :D definitely dangerous. Anything that has a tentacle one must run, no way that can be good.

There are some critter designs where I occasionally wonder if the designers thought about the biology of the thing or if it's just a cool design XD

Yay for getting back into ZBrush! I love sculpting, am looking forward to getting into my next characters just for that.

Comparing these to what you were doing 3 years ago is like comparing night and day.

Your perseverance is impressive. Keep it up!

Much love,
