Street Photography | Art gets harder and easier with age [ENG/ESP]

[ENG] Happy weekend, community! In my previous posts I mentioned that I have been quite motivated to take photos this week, and it is not only because of the confinement that we all face, it is also a search for the artistic spirit and the enthusiasm to find the beauty that I used to have a few years ago.

En mis post previos mencionaba que he estado bastante motivado a tomar fotos esta semana, y no es solo por el encierro al que nos enfrentamos todos, también es una búsqueda del espíritu artístico y el entusiasmo por encontrar la belleza que solía tener hace algunos años.

[ENG] I have always been interested in arts, practically since I was a child, I liked to paint, make plasticine sculptures and others, when I was 17 I started playing the guitar, at 19 I had my first own camera, although I already liked to take photos with my cell phone, and at the age of 20 I had already started to study architecture, but it was at 21-22 that I began to get really interested in photography.

When I went out into the street, everything excited me, the lights, the shadows, the reflections, the colors, I could perceive the aesthetic power of a scene very easily, for my own eyes, of course. It is a blessing to enjoy the simplest and most unnoticed things in life, like a puddle or the clouds in the sky.

[ESP] Siempre he estado interesado en las artes, prácticamente desde niño, me gustaba pintar, hacer esculturas de plastilina y demás, cuando tenía 17 años comencé a tocar a guitarra, a los 19 años tuve mi primera cámara propia, aunque ya me gustaba tomar fotos con mi celular, y a los 20 años ya había comenzado a estudiar arquitectura, pero fue a los 21-22 años que comencé a interesarme realmente en la fotografía.

Cuando salía a la calle todo me emocionaba, las luces, las sombras, los reflejos, los colores, podía percibir la potencia estética de una escena con mucha facilidad, a mis ojos, claro está. Es una bendición disfrutar de las cosas más simples y desapercibidas de la vida, como un charco o las nubes en el cielo.

[ENG] That ability to marvel at everything around is something that can dissolve in a world so complicated, so hostile. In order to enjoy the beauty of simplicity, some primary needs must first be met, such as food and safety. The burdens and responsibilities of life, difficulties and adversities, hinder the perception of these stimuli associated with beauty and the sublime.

[ESP] Esa capacidad por maravillarse por cada cosa alrededor es algo que puede disolverse en un mundo tan complicado, tan hostil. Para poder disfrutar de la belleza de lo simple, antes deben satisfacerse algunas necesidades primordiales, por ejemplo la alimentación y la seguridad. Las cargas y responsabilidades de la vida, las dificultades y adversidades, obstaculizan la percepción de estos estímulos asociados a la belleza y a lo sublime.

[ENG] Age is not necessarily what blinds us, but the weight of time and the expectations of society make us focus our energy on other things, planning our own future.

This approach, which I used to access so easily to enjoy the beauty of simplicity, becomes a kind of door from which I decide to enter or exit, when you spend a lot of time inside it is difficult to exit and vice versa. I do not recommend living in that dream state, other things in life are lost that we can only access in a state of alert, but I do believe it necessary to drop the burdens to rest. Just like climbing a mountain, a minute of rest restores energy, but if we remain at rest we will not reach the top.

[ESP] La edad no es necesariamente lo que nos ciega, pero el peso del tiempo y las expectativas de la sociedad hacen que enfoquemos nuestra energía hacia otras cosas, la planificación del futuro propio.

Este enfoque al que antes accedía tan fácilmente para disfrutar de la belleza de lo simple se convierte en una especie de puerta de la que yo decido entrar o salir, cuando se pasa mucho tiempo adentro cuesta salir y viceversa. No recomiendo vivir en ese estado de ensueño, se pierden otras cosas de la vida a las que solo podemos acceder en estado de alerta, pero si creo necesario soltar las cargas para descansar. Así como subir una montaña, un minuto de reposo devuelve las energías, pero si nos quedamos en reposo no llegaremos a la cima.

[ENG] Art becomes easier and more difficult with age because it is when we see things for the first time that they impress us the most, when we discover something we feel a joy that makes us perceive it as the most incredible thing on earth, even for a few moments. When we have already seen so much, the motivating feeling of 'the new' begins to fade, however, already in our memory we can use what we have learned to capture or re-interpret beauty, and in that sense it is more trivial, but more profitable, our relationship with art.

[ESP] El arte se hace más fácil y más difícil con la edad porque es cuando vemos las cosas por primera vez cuando más nos impresionan, cuando descubrimos algo sentimos una alegría que nos hace percibir aquello como lo más increíble en la tierra, aunque sea por algunos momentos. Cuando ya hemos visto tanto, el sentimiento motivador de 'lo nuevo' comienza a desvanecerse, sin embargo, ya en nuestra memoria podemos usar lo aprendido para capturar o re-interpretar la belleza, y en ese sentido es más trivial, pero más provechosa, nuestra relación con el arte.
