Art & Creativity: Memories of Very Different Days

Because we are approaching "Tax Time" here in the US, I found myself going though boxes of financial records over the weekend... specifically, some dating back to the now defunct Red Dragonfly Gallery.

It was a slightly odd and nostalgic feeling: On one hand, relief that we closed when we did (June 2019) and thus did not have to try to struggle our way through a year of Covid lockdowns with a brick-and-mortar shop... on the other hand, sadness at this "thing" we poured our heart and soul into having gone the way of so many small businesses.

June 2016, during better times...

Of course, the sad reality is that I was looking through that paperwork because of so-called "loss carryforwards" for tax purposes.

Loss.

That's pretty much the bottom line of the story... because ultimately, we start businesses because we hope to gain, but so many art-related things end up in loss, instead.

In general, people have great appreciation for things artistic, but so much of the time they do not have money for things artistic.

Hence the entire stereotype of "The Starving Artist" is actually more of a truism than a stereotype.

Meanwhile — at best — I keep a few of the positive memories alive by posting them here as they arise.

In the meantime, back to those taxes!

Thanks for looking and sharing in the memory.
