14 days.

That’s the approximate number of days I last posted here on the Hive Blog. And I really missed all the fun here. The reason for my absence is that I started exam about 3 weeks ago and it was really tasking and hectic I had to take a break to focus on academics.

I study an Engineering course and all of my courses this semester were 3 units courses, (Nigerians students here would understand the gravity of that). It put me on my toes honestly because any slacking in the courses would seriously have drained my CGPA.

But I’m really not here to just speak on that. I’ll love to talk on the psychological effect that exams can have on students, especially to students in this part of the world (Nigeria)
Of a truth learning isn’t meant to be difficult, it wasn’t made to stress students. It was only a medium to test how much knowledge you’ve been able to acquire over the course of learning a particular course. But here in Nigeria, schooling in a higher institution is HARD. It is basically designed to frustrate and stress the hell out of one. The lectures are designed to stress the hell out of one. The lecturers are bent of making sure the number of failing students are more than those that pass their courses. Truth is, most of Nigerian lecturers are sadists. They are never the success of students. Therefore, as a Nigerian student, you never try to get in the way of a lecturer, that is getting in their bad books. They look for many ways to make sure students fail.

And students have to go through all this. They have the hurdle of reading to pass their courses and also pleasing their lecturers along the way. It really can be mentally draining and tasking. And then we have the University system itself working against us, government policies not in our favor and the money-greedy lecturers who are ready to go on a strike for just a penny of their not being paid in full to them. The student pays for all of this. Amidst all this, we have a responsibility to make sure we have our finances running well and that’s why about 50% of Nigerian students presently are either involved in a business venture or building and making use of a skill. And for me, one of such ways is writing. And it’s one of the reasons HIVE is so much important to me. It’s truly a side hustle to many of us here…

But yeah, I’m back, putting my examination stress and vibes behind and I’m BACK here.
