Are Orwell and Huxley of the same species? Can we have a hybrid or do I have to choose?
Would the hybrid be Ayn Rand? Just kidding.
I actually think that Huxley is the more likely. Only because the attempts to control a population completely have failed sooner or later so far.
They were both members of the Fabian society....I'm yet to decide whether or not they were conditioning us - or were disillusioned (grew up), and were then warning us..
Perhaps John Brunner may well be a good hybrid candidate. ;)
Looks like both are right. Just look around you. 1984 is happening and everything slowly leading to huxley’s vision all according to both of them. Seems like Orwell had the example of the Soviet Union in the 30’s to draw from. And while he could be considered a prophet for the latter part of the 20th century, Huxley clearly would have to be considered the prophet for the 21st.

I think they were both bright in their fears and it's up to us to keep a balance.
Yes, it is seen that both were very keen observers and attentive to what was happening around them to try to predict some very obvious trends in society.
As for balance, I think we've been already walking the tightrope for a long time. :)
