El canto de las chicharras /The song of the cicadas
(Edited)

The song of the cicada
I remember your penetrating song when, as a child in my hometown, I used to look for you among the trees, where you hid under the cover of night. Those were days of oppressive heat and you announced that soon the first rains of the year would fall.
The cicadas came out of the ground where for years they have been developing, sucking the sap from the roots of the trees, sheltered from the dark and cold, protected from predators.
But the species must continue to survive and the adults go out to do what they have done for millions of years, reproduce. And the male with his song calls the female and for the first and last time they unite in their nuptial flight, to leave their offspring in the eggs they lay on the ground.
What a wonderful nature in its life cycle, its metamorphosis and its departure to the sun to reproduce and die.
His body already without strength to fly and covered with a white cloak I took him in my hands, I knew he did not have much time left and I took him to rest in the shade of a tree.
Today I listen to you again as I do every year and I know that as long as you sing, life will continue its course.

Jajajaja pobres chicharritas. Un abrazo y bendiciones
