I am reflecting on the things that I have learned over the years, I must confess that they are not as many as I would like nor are they all the things that I would like, but I guess I cannot complain too much.

In part, I was reflecting because I was reviewing old work by students who were at one time my students, one of the things I noticed was that there was a kind of rush or rush very marked by having mastery over the knowledge that was imparted to them But they did not take the time to reflect on what they were being taught and did not 'digest' what they were learning.

In their haste they lost the effort and it came to the case that they memorized things in the short term, they answered the next exam on the subject, but they did not really learn anything about the subject, because learning implies, after all, achieving a modification of the state of knowledge of the own person.

What we really learn changes us, makes us see the world in new ways, transforms us in some way. What is memorized only to comply with academic or professional formalisms does not change us to a great extent and in the long run it can be forgotten or become a simple set of inert data, something that I cannot call knowledge in any way.

Achieving personal and real knowledge implies dedicating time, time to obtain it, time to reflect on it and time to explore its possibilities and scope. That sounds great and seems like a very ideal question, but I know that in everyday reality, time is an extremely scarce resource and with the acceleration of everyday life, few young people I know would actually be willing to spend their precious time on master these skills.

I feel that it is a regrettable thing, but I understand that this is the characteristic of the times in which I live.

En parte, estaba reflexionando debido a que estaba revisando trabajos viejos de estudiantes que en algún momento fueron mis alumnos, una de las cosas que noté fue que había una especie de apuro o de prisa muy marcada por tener dominio sobre los conocimientos que se les impartía, pero no se daban el tiempo para reflexionar lo que se les enseñaba y no 'hacían la digestión' de lo que estaban aprendiendo.

En su prisa se perdía el esfuerzo y se llegaba al caso de que memorizaban a corto plazo las cosas, pasa responder el siguiente examen de la materia, pero no aprendían en realidad nada del tema, porque aprender implica, después de todo, lograr una modificación del estado de conocimiento de la propia persona.

Aquello que realmente aprendemos nos cambia, nos hace ver el mundo de nuevas maneras, nos transforma de algún modo. Lo que se memoriza solo para cumplir con formalismos académicos o profesionales no nos cambia en gran medida y a la larga se puede olvidar o volverse un simple conjunto de datos inertes, una cosa que no puedo llamar conocimiento de ninguna manera.

El lograr conocimiento personal y real implica dedicar tiempo, tiempo para obtenerlo, tiempo para reflexionarlo y tiempo para explorar sus posibilidades y alcances. Eso suena muy bien y parece una cuestión muy ideal, pero sé que en la realidad cotidiana, el tiempo es un recurso extremadamente escaso y con la aceleración de la vida cotidiana, pocas personas jóvenes que conozco estaría dispuestas en verdad a consumir su valioso tiempo en dominar estos conocimientos.

Siento que es una cosa lamentable, pero entiendo que esta es la característica delos tiempos en que vivo.
