Daybreak in our mountains this morning.

A look at the mountains tells me what our weather will be for the day.

Tempestuous winds encircled the mountains with clouds. One word only, rain later today.

Our place in the Western Cape Province of South Africa is not only known as the "Cape of Storms" but also for it's reputation of having 4 seasons in one day.
Blistering heat of the African sun,(summer), winter rain, cold winds (winter) and periods in between that feel like Spring and Fall. All in one day.
Such a day as we are having today.
Come and have a look at the early mountains and some surprises.

Those are not mists, as they are actual clouds that get tangled in the mountains.
The wind coming from behind the mountains gets blocked here by winds coming over the ocean and you can see that straight up line of the cloud in the picture.

So the two opposing winds drift the clouds sideways along the mountain range, fighting each other all of the way.
The opposing wind from the ocean side was winning the battle as it curled the line of clouds backwards as you can see in the first picture.
024.JPG

At times the two opposing winds can form a veritable cauldron of clouds in the mountain peaks.

Here's a shot a bit further out to show you the mass of clouds that the winds were playing with.
027.JPG

And there at the left top you can see what happened to the original line of clouds, as the winds were twirling it in a semi circle on the left mountain peak.

This halo around the sun was our sign yesterday that bad weather was on its way.

So what to do on a rainy day?
Well I feed wet squirrels at out study window hehehe.

We live in a bay that is backed by a ring of mountains and fronted by the cold Atlantic ocean and this is the reason why our weather is so weird here. The inland winds push the clouds onto the mountains due to the low pressure created by the winds that flow over the ocean.
We have one big isolated mountain at the left hand side and when the wind flows over that mountain in our direction the air gets very hot as the wind comes from the hot desert direction.
Imagine how weird we found all of this when we moved here 3 years ago. It feels like a sauna at night when the desert wind flows over that mountain.
Fortunately it only happens once or twice a year.
I hope that I have explained our strange weather patterns fairly well to you.

And That's All Friends!

I remember I read a reply from you about being in SA, and I feel guilty because I did knew that but somehow it slipped from my mind. Now that I read this post I was reminded of it.

Having squirrels come at you to your window, that's the life mate, that's the life.

No problem Eric as it was quite awhile ago and I am supposed to be the one that forgets things. But I have a good reason because I am old :)

I wrote a list of the first names of my friends down and the list has disappeared.
Luckily I still remember your name as you were kind to our charity in the days when you were an OCD mod and I have never seen an upvote from them again.

We found two of them here when we moved in a two years ago and Marian my wife likes to feed anything. So the family has grown substantially and we are glad.

Ahaha does that mean I don't have a good reason? :P haha

Yeah man, I remember those days, I used to try and constantly support worthy content both my huge delegation and with the ocd account, I'm quite sure they are now curating content posted in specific communities, I don't know why they haven't stumbled upon one of your posts :(

Nice, sounds like Marian is a great life partner, I think I already found mine and she is pretty similar regarding wild animals.

Thanks for the beer!

Oh yeah I certainly remember the great and kind support that you used to give us. That's why I decided to support your post know, as a way to give back.
I can't give the amounts that you gave, but even a bit is better than nothing.

Honestly it doesn't worry me whether they do or not, as I simply continue with my work.

So will we be hearing wedding bells one of these days? 😊
