The girl in the lake / La niña del lago

In a small village in Patagonia a family, consisting of a married couple and a small girl, alternated their life in the village, and in a house situated a few kilometers from the place where there was a beautiful lake, and where they enjoyed their free time.

En un pequeño pueblo de la Patagonia una familia, compuesta por el matrimonio y una pequeña niña, alternaba su vida en el pueblo, y en un casa situada a pocos kilómetros del lugar donde había un hermoso lago, y a donde disfrutaban en sus tiempos libres.

The lake house, is a property inherited by the girl's mother and is a place where the family enjoys a lot, as they notice a great connection between their little daughter and this place where the mother had been so happy during her childhood.

La casa del lago, es una propiedad heredada por la mamá de la niña y es un lugar donde la familia disfruta mucho, ya que notan una gran conexión entre su pequeña hija y este lugar en donde la mamá había sido tan feliz durante su infancia.

There they enjoy the beautiful landscape they had in front of the house. A large lake with crystal-clear waters, a large conifer forest and the mountain range in the background with its eternal snow peaks gave this wonderful house a beautiful environment where only they and some neighbors were located at a great distance from their house.

Allí disfrutan del hermoso paisaje que tenían frente a la casa. Un gran lago de aguas cristalinas, un gran bosque de coníferas y la cordillera de fondo con sus cumbres de nieves eternas daban a esta maravillosa casa un entorno bellísimo donde solo estaban ellos y algún vecino ubicado a gran distancia de su casa.

During spring and summer they come to this beautiful house every weekend.

Durante la primavera y el verano concurren a esta preciosa casa todos los fin de semana.

Parents were always struck by how well their child spent her days in this house. She was always very entertaining and liked to walk around the lake. She knew not to get too close to the lake as her peers had warned her of the dangers of the place since she was a child.

A los padres siempre les llamó la atención lo bien que su niña pasaba sus días en esta casa. Ella siempre estaba muy entretenida y le gustaba estar caminando cerca del lago. Ella sabía que no se debía aproximar mucho al lago ya que sus pares la han prevenido de los peligros del lugar desde pequeña.

Beyond the fact that the house was only 30 meters from the lake's shore, the girl was always under the attentive supervision of her parents.

The girl also liked to approach the coniferous forest that was close to the house. The girl's parents liked to give the girl some freedom to see how she would react when she walked away from them. On one occasion when the girl approached the forest, the mother noticed that the girl was very entertaining and talking, as if she were having a conversation with someone else.

En una ocasión en que la niña se acerco al bosque, la madre noto que la niña estaba muy entretenida y hablaba, como si estuviese teniendo una conversación con alguién más.

After spending some fun time in the first trees of the forest and talking to God knows who, the girl started back to the house, not before saying goodbye to someone.

Después de pasar un buen momento entretenida en los primeros árboles del bosque y de hablar sabe Dios con quién, la niña emprendió el regreso hacia la casa, no antes de despedirse de alguien.

The mother of the little girl tried to divert her thoughts to another place and after much thought she began to ask her daughter about the characteristics of her little friend. After hearing the description of her daughter, the woman decided to go and look for an old family album that was in the attic of the house because it seemed to her that the description might match someone who might be in a photo.

After reaching the photo album, the three of them sit down on the living room table and start looking at the photos, hoping that the girl would recognize her friend from the photos.

The next morning after waking up the girl's mother remembered that as a child she had had an accident that almost cost her life and a strange situation that happened at that time.

A la mañana siguiente luego de despertarse la mamá de la niña recordó que de pequeña ella había tenido un accidente que casi le costó la vida y una situación extraña que sucedió en aquel momento.

She remembered that one sunny day she came dangerously close to the dock where they were moored in the lake and by the intensity of the sun reflecting on the lake she was dazzled and fell into the lake, which although it was not very deep, was very dangerous for a little girl who could not swim.

When the then young girl stood up and the fright passed, her mother asked her how she had managed to get out of the lake, she said that another girl had offered her hand and she automatically grabbed it and pulled it out of the water.

From that day on, the parents understood that there was no reason to worry. Their daughter had as a friend the girl from the lake who was none other than her aunt whom she never knew as such.

A partir de ese día, los padres entendieron que no había motivo para preocuparse. su hija tenía como amiga a la niña del lago que no era otra que su tía a la que nunca conoció como tal.
