Sabía que hay muchos insectos en Chile que no viven en ninguna otra parte del mundo. Sin embargo, me sorprendió observar el tamaño que tenía y dónde lo encontré.

Did you know that there are many insects in Chile that do not live in any other part of the world? However, I was surprised to see how big it was and where I found it.

Mientras buscaba una caja de cerámicas para piso, me llamó la atención los colores amarillo y negro sobre una pequeña piedra en el suelo; Estaba inmóvil, pensé que estaba muerto. Al acercarme, me percaté que estaba vivo, y asumí por los colores, que su picada no sería menos dolorosa que su tamaño.

While searching for a ceramic for floor box, I was struck by the yellow and black colors on a small stone on the floor; He was motionless, I thought he was dead. As I got closer, I realized that he was alive, and I assumed from the colors, that his bite would be no less painful than his size.

Recordé que una vez leí que cuando una abeja yacía en el suelo inmóvil, era porque se le había terminado el combustible; Al salir a recolectar polen, toman de la propia miel que fabrican para hacer su recorrido. Leí que colocar en un plato agua azucarada, podía ayudar a las abejas en esta condición; Sin embargo, opté por tomarla y llevarla a las flores de diente de león más cercanas y observar su comportamiento.

I remembered reading once that when a bee lay on the ground motionless, it was because it had run out of fuel; When going out to collect pollen, they take the honey they make to make their journey. I read that placing sugar water on a plate could help bees in this condition; However, I chose to take it to the nearest dandelion flowers and observe its behavior.

Fue una experiencia increíble, ver como exploraba e imagino que comía con su lengua, de lo que la flor le entregaba; Cuando creí que ya no había nada en la flor, llevé al insecto a otra flor, y así lo hice por unos minutos, hasta que pudiera volar por sí mismo.

It was an incredible experience, to see how he explored and imagine that he ate with his tongue, from what the flower gave him; When I thought that there was nothing in the flower, I took the insect to another flower, and I did so for a few minutes until it could fly on its own.

Me gustan los insectos y todo lo que hay en la naturaleza, de manera que, fue muy placentero tomar fotos mientras esto ocurria.

I like insects and everything in nature, so it was very pleasant to take photos while this was happening.

Luego busqué por la internet acerca de este insecto y leí que este abejorro,traído desde Europa, ha sido la causa de la extinción del más del 94% de la población del abejorro chileno; El abejorro nativo es de color naranja o rojizo.

Then I searched the internet about this insect and read that this bumblebee, brought from Europe, has been the cause of the extinction of more than 94% of the Chilean bumblebee population; The native bumblebee is orange or reddish in color.

Al final, este insecto no tiene la culpa de que lo hayan traído hasta aquí, así que me sentí bien al verlo volver a volar, quizás, hacia su colmena.
