Oloture is one of the most talked movies in Nigeria for some time now. I had heard so many good reviews on the movie, and I decided to give it a shot, and I must say that I was impressed. One of the best movies I have seen this year.

The movie was initially released on the 31 of October 2019. It was directed by award-winning director Kenneth Gyang and produced by Mo Abudu. The story was tailored to a real live investigation on sex trafficking in 2014 by Tobore Ovuorie. Sharon Ooja played the lead role as Oloture, a brave journalist who was set to uncover a sex tracking ring in Lagos Nigeria.

I was really impressed by the acting, especially from Sharon who happens to my favourite female actor. The cinematography and directing was decent. Nothing felt out of place. I really don't have anything bad to say about the movie. I was really impressed.

Highpoint

Ironically, what really captured my mind was the supporting actors, Linda played by Omowumi Dada. So Linda was the prostitute who introduced Oloture to Alero, the sex trafficker who was taking young girls to Italy for prostitution. It was her and her sister's ticket out of a life of poverty, unfortunately, things didn't pan out well as they thought.

It was an honest emotional moment for me watching this movie. It took me into a sphere I have been very curious about and I got to see things from a different perspective. Plus, it depicts the sad reality of many Nigerians who get into all sorts in their bid to escape poverty and a dysfunctional society and are willing to do so at the expense of their lives.

Human trafficking is a $150 billion global industry. And two-thirds of this figure is generated from sexual exploitation, according to a 2014 report by the International Labor Organization. It is also on record that over 90% of humans trafficked from Nigeria are women. Many never make it to their destination.

Like I have said several times I enjoy watching conscious movies that trigger important conversations about real societal issues and this movie did just that. Tobore's work didn't get as much traction as the movie did over the past year and it is a beautiful thing to see the work in 2014 by this brave female journalist is getting worldwide recognition.

The movie is currently available on netflex. I guaranty it is worth your time.

So if you have watched the movie i would like to hear your opinion about the movie in the comment section. What was your highpoint? What did you like or dislike about the movie. Share me with me the comment section
