The rich and the wise (fable)

In the city of Galatia lived a very rich man named Thaddeus.

He had all the comforts he could dream of but nothing seemed to make him happy. He lived in a great depression and although his servants looked for ways to entertain him they could not get him to laugh. He just said:

-Everything is so useless and meaningless, I don't understand why having everything nothing makes me happy.

Listening to him one of his servants said:

-"My master is coming to town in a few days, one of the most important wise men in the country, and if you can talk to him, you might be able to solve his problem.

-Trazon get me an appointment with this man.

The servant managed to get his master attended to by the wise man, and when Thaddeus arrived where he was, he told him:

-"I've been told that you'll manage to solve my problem.

-Tell me what it is and we'll try to do it.

-I am an immensely rich man but nothing makes me happy, my servants do everything they can to entertain me but everything seems to be useless to me.

The wise man turned to Thaddeus and said:

-Come here," he directed him to a window and said, "look through the glass and tell me what you see.

Thaddeus responded:

-The street.

-No, tell me in detail what you see.

Thaddeus looked out the window again and said:

-I see a woman, apparently very humble, with a child in her arms who is very sad and I don't know why.

The wise man said:

-Your son is very sick and you can't afford the medicine to cure him.

He took him to a mirror and said:

-Now tell me what you see.

-I see a rich man, I see me, but I'm worried about what you said about the woman and the child.

-How can the child possibly die because this woman has no money?

The wise man said:

-These things are very frequent.

-And why didn't I know that?

Because when the glass has a little bit of silver we only manage to look at ourselves and we forget to look at the being called God who is within us, which is why we never manage to make him happy because he can only be happy when we manage to love our neighbor as ourselves, which is why you do not manage to be happy in spite of all the well-being you have, because your life has no more meaning than nothing, I would advise you to give it an end and meaning, to begin to listen to the being within you and to look through the glass that faces the street.

That day Thaddeus left there and went to the woman who was on the street, took her and with his money he healed the child and from that day he dedicated his life to helping others and Galatia did not know a man happier and more loved than him
