Bienvenidos nuevamente a mi blog, esta es la tercera y última parte de consejos fundamentales para hacer un currículo ganador, que te permita sobresalir, mostrar todo tu potencial y te ayude a obtener la preciada entrevista. Greetings! Welcome back to my blog, this is the third and final part of fundamental tips to make a winner resume, that allows you to outstand, show your full potential and help you get the precious interview. Here you can get the first part and the second part. If you have not read them yet, I recommend you to do it so you do not lose valuable information, if you have been consistent at this point your resume must have improved a lot.

Ya su currículo debe tener un buen encabezado, con su información de contacto completa, una buena foto que permita apreciar bien su rostro, y en la que se note que esta vestido de manera formal, para la ocasión de buscar trabajo.

At this point your resume should have a good headline, with your complete contact information, a good photo that allows to appreciate well your face, and in which it is noticed that you are dressed in a formal way, for the occasion of looking for a job.

Seguidamente debe tener su información académica ordenada de la mas reciente a la más antigua, así como sus experiencias laborales. Si ya cumplías con todo lo que está indicado arriba, y estas pensando “pero, aun así no me llamaron”. Quizás es porque en la parte de la experiencia laboral escribiste algo, pero no expresaste nada.

You should then have your academic information sorted from the most recent to the oldest, as well as your work experiences. If you already complied with all of the above, and you are thinking "but, I still didn't get a call". Maybe it's because in the work experience part you wrote something, but you didn't express anything.

Recuerda que tu currículo es tu carta de presentación, tu momento de brillar por primera vez, debes venderte, y todo debe estar enfocado para eso; tu fin es que la persona que lo lea no lo deje de lado con facilidad. Ahora debes preguntarte con sinceridad ¿Qué se hacer yo, que no saben hacer otros? ¿Cuál es mi especialidad?

Remember that your resume is your letter of introduction, your moment to shine for the first time, you must sell yourself, and everything must be focused on that; your goal is that the person who reads it does not leave it behind easily. Now you must ask yourself honestly, what do I know that others don't? What is my specialty?

Aun en el caso de los recién graduados las experiencias universitarias y de pasantías no son las mismas, tú y tus colegas, no tienen exactamente los mismos conocimientos, tú tienes algo que te hace único, aunque todos hayan realizado pasantías, las tuyas no se parecen a las de nadie, esta experiencia fue completamente individual, y quizás esas características que no estas comunicando es justo lo que la empresa necesita.

Even in the case of new graduates, the university and internship experiences are not the same, you and your colleagues, do not have exactly the same knowledge, you have something that makes you unique, even if everyone has done internships, yours are not like anyone else's, this experience was completely individual, and perhaps those characteristics that you are not communicating is just what the company needs.

Si ya cuentas con experiencia laboral esto debe ser más notorio aún. Tu experiencia de campo es distintiva, las funciones que cumples o que cumplías, no son iguales en todas las empresas, y es necesario ver esto que parece obvio para ti, destacado en papel.

If you already have work experience this should be even more noticeable. Your field experience is distinctive, the functions you perform or were performing are not the same in all companies, and it is necessary to see this that seems obvious to you, highlighted on paper.

Parece evidente, pero no lo es, no puedo contar el número de excelentes profesionales con los que he trabajado, y que al momento de pedir su currículo no dicen nada... Mesoneros que no mencionan nada de su conocimiento practico haciendo café o ayudando en la barra, no mencionan sus destrezas para montajes de mesa, buffet, decoración del restaurante.

It seems obvious, but it is not, I can't count the number of excellent professionals I have worked with, and who at the moment of asking for their résumé don't say anything... Waiters who don't mention anything about their practical knowledge, making coffee or helping at the bar, don't mention their skills in table setting, buffet,and restaurant decoration.

Tuve la oportunidad de trabajar con chef excelente hace años, de esas personas con las que te dices si tengo la oportunidad de llevarlo conmigo lo hare, por que sus platos eran impresionantes, eran equilibrados en todo: sabor, presentación, creatividad. Su estilo de trabajaba era la cocina moderna y la comida fusión; Tenia conocimientos y practica hasta con comida molecular (aquí en Venezuela es muy raro, por el alto costo de los insumos). Imaginen mi sorpresa cuando pido su currículo para una gran oportunidad en un hotel 5 estrellas, y no dice nada de esto. Nada un currículo de página y media, sin información relevante.

I had the opportunity to work with an excellent chef years ago, one of those people with whom you say if I have the opportunity to take him with me I will, because his plates were impressive, they were balanced in everything: taste, presentation, creativity. This chef worked in the style of modern cuisine and fusion food, he had knowledge and practice even with molecular food (here in Venezuela it is very rare, because of the high cost of supplies). Imagine my surprise when I ask for his resume for a great opportunity in a 5 star hotel, and it doesn't say anything about this. There is nothing, a curriculum of a page and a half without relevant information.

Vayamos directamente a este último ejemplo. Usted es el encargado de reclutar a un chef para su restaurante o su hotel. Y se le presentan estos 2 currículos ¿a quién contrataría?

Let's go straight to this last example. You are in charge of recruiting a chef for your restaurant or your hotel. And you are presented with these two resumes, who would you hire?

Ejemplo 1: Poca información. / Example 1: Little information.

Ejemplo 2: Información detallada de funciones previas. Destaca conocimientos adquiridos. / Example 2: Details of previous functions. Highlighting acquired knowledge.

Por último, pero no menos importante son sus referencias, un tema a aclarar aquí, es que no son iguales las referencias personales que las laborales, debe recordar que está solicitando un empleo, por ende, es más lógico que yo desee hablar de su desempeño laboral con sus antiguos jefes que con su tía, su vecino, o su madre.

Last but not least are your references, a topic to be clarified here, is that personal references are not the same as work references, you must remember that you are applying for a job, therefore, it is more logical that I want to talk about your work performance with your former bosses than with your aunt, your neighbor, or your mother.

Usted es libre de colocar ambos tipos de referencia si así lo desea, pero se recomienda que las referencias personales, sean de personas profesionales, pueden ser de profesores de su universidad, en caso de que no tenga experiencia laboral, o de colegas en su profesión. Personas cuyo título o cargo representen la seriedad suficiente como para emitir una recomendación.

You are free to place both types of reference if you wish, but it is recommended that personal references, be from professionals, they can be from teachers from your university, in case you do not have work experience, or from colleagues in your profession. Persons whose degree or position represents enough seriousness to make a recommendation.

En lo particular a mí me gusta colocar entre mis referencias laborales a mis ex jefes directos, también puedo colocar el numero de la compañía, pero seguramente podrá dar más detalles de mi puntualidad, mis fortalezas, o mis características en el trabajo el jefe del departamento o del área en la que me encontraba trabajando. Sí además cuenta con este mismo tipo de recomendación por escrito, seria perfecto para anexar al final de su información.

In particular I like to place among my job references to my former direct bosses, I can also place the number of the company, but surely can give more details of my timeliness, my strengths, or my characteristics at work the head of the department or area in which I was working. if you also have this same type of recommendation on paper, it would be perfect to attach at the end of your information.

Mi última recomendación es que cuides tu apariencia cuando vayas a entregar tu currículo, ve bien vestido, se amable y ten un buen trato con las personas que encuentres; No sabes si la persona con la que estás hablando puede ser un futuro compañero de trabajo o tu empleador, esto puede generar un comentario provechoso hacia tu persona antes de si quiera revisar tu información. Esta primera impresión positiva puede hacer una diferencia.

My last recommendation is that you take care of your appearance when you go to submit your resume, go well dressed, be nice and have a good deal with the people you meet; you do not know if the person you are talking to may be a future co-worker or your employer, this may generate a helpful comment to you before you even want to review your information. This positive first impression can make a difference.
