Hola a todos como se encuentran? Hoy quiero hablar con ustedes de unas tradiciones un poco peculiares de Semana Santa, que algunas de ellas, incluso hablando con amigos de otros rincones de mi país, al parecer solo se practican en mi región.

Hello everyone, how are you? Today I want to talk with you about some peculiar traditions of Holy Week, that some of them, even speaking with friends from other corners of my country, apparently are only practiced in my region.

Hoy en día no soy una persona muy creyente a pesar de que vengo de una familia muy católica, un poco más por parte de mi papá, pero ambas tienes fuertes tradiciones y costumbres que son muy similares, por lo que me pareció algo muy interesante y me gustaría contarles un poco de eso...

Today I am not a very believing person even though I come from a very Catholic family, a bit more from my dad, but both have strong traditions and customs that are very similar, so I found it something very interesting and I would like to tell you a little about that...

Los Siete Potajes / The Seven Stews

Esta es una tradición solo de los Andes Venezolanos, que se han transmitido de generación en generación, y a pesar de que gracias a las dificultades económicas que muchas familias andinas han sufrido, aún se puede ver algunas familias disfrutando de esta costumbre.

This is a tradition only from the Venezuelan Andes, which have been passed down from generation to generation, and despite the fact that thanks to the economic difficulties that many Andean families have suffered, you can still see some families enjoying this custom.

La tradición consiste en servir para el almuerzo del Jueves Santo 7 platos diferentes, que de acuerdo a la región donde te encuentres, y a tu familia, pueden llegar a ser diferentes. Por lo menos en mi familia hay algunas diferencias, por parte de mi padre son un poco más tradicionales, ya que cocinan pastelitos andinos, la proteína de la comida es pescado, hay chocolate caliente y arepitas de harina de trigo.

The tradition consists in serving for lunch on Holy Thursday 7 different dishes, which depending on the region where you are, and your family, may be different. At least in my family there are some differences, on my father's side they are a bit more traditional, since they cook Andean pastries, the protein in the food is fish, there is hot chocolate and arepitas made from wheat flour.

Por parte de mi madre conservan toques tradicionales como manjar de piña para el postre, acompañándolos con carne de res, aguacate o tostones para completar los 7 platos.

On my mother's side, they preserve traditional touches such as pineapple delicacy for dessert, accompanying them with beef, avocado or tostones to complete the 7 dishes.

En años anteriores, nos reuníamos toda la familia para la hora del almuerzo, y como las casas de mi abuelos están a una cuadra de distancia, mi hermano y yo siempre aprovechamos para comer lo que más nos gustará, jajaja.

In previous years, the whole family would get together for lunch, and since my grandparents' houses are a block away, my brother and I always take the opportunity to eat what we like the most, jajaja.

Este año, por cuestiones de la migración masiva de mi país, pero sobre todo por la pandemia, decidimos hacer esta comida en casa. Como han podido ver en muchas de mis fotos, al mi mamá ser doctora y yo estar también en el ambiente de salud, siempre llevamos el tapabocas así sea en casa, así que cuidense todos para poder seguir disfrutando de todas estas cosas en familia!

This year, due to mass migration from my country, but especially due to the pandemic, we decided to make this meal at home. As you have seen in many of my photos, as my mother is a doctor and I am also in the health environment, we always wear the mask, even if it is at home, so everyone should take care to continue enjoying all these things as a family!

Visitar las Siete Iglesias / Visit the Seven Churches.

Esta es otra tradición del Jueves Santo, aunque por razones más que obvios, este año no se pudo realizar. Consistía en como lo dice su nombre, en visitar al menos 7 iglesias en mi ciudad, dedicando unas oraciones a Dios y prendiendo una vela en el altar como símbolo de obediencia.

This is another tradition of Holy Thursday, although for more than obvious reasons, this year it could not be carried out. It consisted of, as its name says, visiting at least 7 churches in my city, dedicating some prayers to God and lighting a candle on the altar as a symbol of obedience.

Veías a muchas familias caminando por las calles de la ciudad desde muy tempranas horas de la mañana, visitando diferentes iglesias que podían ser por orden de cercanía, y para los más fieles, visitaban los templos en orden de importancia para la religión o importancia en su vida.

You saw many families walking through the streets of the city from very early in the morning, visiting different churches that could be in order of proximity, and for the most faithful, they visited the temples in order of importance for religion or importance in their life.

Nosotros las visitabamos en orden específico de manera que quedarán todas por el camino desde nuestra casa hasta la casa de mis abuelas, haciendo paradas en cada una de ellas para rezar unas oraciones y prender cuatro velitas por cada uno de nosotros.

We visited them in a specific order so that they will all be on the way from our house to my grandmothers' house, making stops at each of them to say some prayers and light four candles for each one of us.

Viernes Santo: Guardar Ayuno y Abstinencia de Carnes Rojas / Good Friday: Keep Fast and Abstinence from Red Meats.

Esta tradicional es de las más practicadas a nivel mundial y consiste en la penitencia de los fieles al catolicismo por los pecados que se cometieron contra Jesús, desde las humillaciones, hasta la crucifixión que acabo con la vida del hijo de Dios.

This traditional is one of the most practiced worldwide and consists of the penance of the faithful to Catholicism for the sins that were committed against Jesus, from the humiliations, to the crucifixion that ended the life of the son of God.

En la actualidad, cada vez menos personas practican estás costumbres, incluyendome, ya que soy más creyente de realizar siempre bien y obrar sin buscar la maldad ajena, que de darme golpes de pecho volviendo a mis malas costumbres días después de terminada la Semana Santa.

Nowadays, fewer and fewer people practice these customs, including myself, since I am more of a believer in always doing well and acting without looking for the evil of others, than of beating my chest, returning to my bad habits days after the end of Holy Week.

Aunque no menos cierto es que es algo super importante para muchas otras personas, principalmente para nuestro abuelos, por lo que siempre hay que buscar respetar las creencias de todos, y más aún cuando has sido criado alrededor de todas ellas y sabes la importancia que hay detrás de cada una.

Although it is no less true that it is something super important for many other people, mainly for our grandparents, so you always have to seek to respect everyone's beliefs, and even more so when you have been raised around all of them and you know the importance there is. behind each one.

Hay muchas otras costumbres y tradiciones como el domingo de Ramos y las misas vespertinas, entre muchas otras, pero están son las principales que más relevancia han tenido para mí y que más me han gustado, ya que además de ser divertidas, tienen el factor de compartir familiar...

There are many other customs and traditions such as Palm Sunday and evening masses, among many others, but these are the main ones that have had the most relevance for me and that I have liked the most, since in addition to being fun, they have the factor of share family...
