My Ecology Anecdotes || A little visitor (ESP-ENG)

En estos días me levanté con mucho ánimo y siempre pendiente de mis plantas que tengo cultivando para regarlas y observar si tienen algún insecto o algo parecido que le esté afectando su crecimiento. Resulta ser que cuando me toca revisar la planta de albahaca observo un insecto parado en una de sus hojas.

These days I woke up with a lot of encouragement and always aware of my plants that I have growing to water them and see if they have any insects or something similar that is affecting their growth. It turns out that when I check the basil plant I see an insect standing on one of its leaves.

Me llamó mucho la atención y recordé la clase de zoología de los invertebrados en la universidad, donde el profesor que impartía sus conocimientos en esa materia era muy divertido y siempre nos preguntaba empezando la clase: ¿Qué son los invertebrados?, ¿Cómo se clasifican?, ¿Cuáles son sus características?. Eso era para reírnos todos ¡Una locura!. Pero luego venia el trabajo de campo. Aquí si teníamos que trabajar, tomando en cuenta muchos aspectos tanto externos como internos para luego hacer la clasificación taxonómica de cada especie en particular…

It caught my attention and I remembered the class of invertebrate zoology at the university, where the professor who taught his knowledge in that subject was very funny and always asked us at the beginning of the class: What are invertebrates, how are they classified, what are their characteristics? That was a joke to all of us. Crazy! But then came the fieldwork. Here we had to work, taking into account many aspects both external and internal to then make the taxonomic classification of each particular species ...

… Vuelvo a observar el insecto que tiene mi planta de albahaca, le tomo varias fotos para observarla mejor e investigar sobre el mismo, porque tenía mis dudas.

Entre sus características, tenemos las siguientes (obtenido en el sitio web de Wikipedia):

Según sus características y comparándolo con lo investigado llego a la conclusión de que es un mántido en su etapa de ninfa (recién nacida). Un mántido es una familia de insectos ortópteros, de forma alargada, cabeza muy visible, con ojos muy grandes, patas del primer par robustas y aptas para la presión, con alas desarrolladas, la ninfa es similar al estado de adultez, pero cambia en el color y en el tamaño, además, se alimentan de insectos y plagas en jardines y cultivos. Su tamaño oscila entre 1 y 17 cm. Se les llama mántidos o mántis por la disposición sus patas delanteras en forma de "rezo". En griego significa "profeta".

According to its characteristics and comparing it with the research I conclude that it is a mantid in its stage of nymph (newborn). A mantid is a family of orthopteran insects, with an elongated shape, very visible head, with very large eyes, legs of the first pair robust and suitable for pressure, with developed wings, the nymph is similar to the adult state, but changes in color and size, in addition, they feed on insects and pests in gardens and crops. Their size ranges from 1 to 17 cm. They are called mantids or mantis because of the arrangement of their front legs in the form of a "prayer". In Greek it means "prophet".

"Ellos regulan la cantidad de insectos y plagas que hacen daño a nuestros cultivos" y esto era lo más importante para mí. Así que luego de conocer sus beneficios dejé tranquilo el pequeño insecto o ninfa del mántido que aún permanece "paralizado" en la hoja de mi planta de albahaca.
