A bark in my heart 🐶

"We found seven puppies in the street, crying out loud for help"... those words catalized a reaction of frustration, despair and anguish within myself. How could a monster of a person was capable of abandoning a group of 1-month-old dogs in a box, lying in the middle of the street, leaving them there to die, without no hesitation nor any type of remorse, whatsover? On December 27th, 2020, I understood that evil materilized itself in the form of heartless regular people. My mission was as clear as water: I had to rescue one of those homeless little beings that were on the brink of death due to the mere irresponsibility of human nature. Some people say that it is better to buy a dog than to adopt it... but, I beg to differ. My youngest daughter was born 22 years ago, so it was my time to grab the motherhood that was in my core and apply it to the newest member of my family.

That is why we proceeded to adopt this beauty of an animal on the next day. Considering that he was my first pet, I must assure you that I was feeling somewhat anxious. I mean... who wouldn´t, am I right? But, when I saw the fear on his bright small eyes, seeking for affection and for a loving home... that is when I understood that nobody- and I mean NOBODY- was ever going to hurt my little son. Clearly, he was afraid; he was discovering a whole new world, a whole new family, a whole new environment, a whole new purpose. But a warrior is a warrior, by nature. And, luckily, he was a gladiator, even more than Russel Crowe.

Love was spread bidirectionally since the moment he entered our home, almost instanteneously. The only debate we ever had was the name we were going to give him. And, after hours discussing the best approach for this little fella, going from Mike, Jake and, even, Dwight (from "The Office"), we decided to name him "Loki" (come on Marvel, give us some credit... Tom Hiddleston would be extremely proud of us), although my daughter and son-in-law say that his complete name is "Loki Snoopy Michael Scott". We took him to the vet and guess what? This little guy was in perfect health... I mean, is he a warrior or what? He's even stronger than all of us combined.

Loki is a Christmas and New Year's miracle, who came to spread happiness in every corner of the house. And now, one week later, he is a complete other animal: he is filled with true happiness and joy. This rescue was a life changer, but not only for him... but for all of us, as well. He gave us a reason to believe in hope, especially during these detrimental times we are living. I want to inspire people all around the world to adopt a pet in need. These harmless animals deserve to be happy, considering that their selflessness is what drives the real emotions in the world. Thank you, Loki, for it is you who made me a mother again after 22 years of "half-time".

"Encontramos siete cachorros en la calle, pidiendo ayuda a gritos"... esas palabras catalizaron una reacción de frustración, desesperación y angustia dentro de mí. ¿Cómo un monstruo de persona podía ser capaz de abandonar a un grupo de perros de un mes de edad en una caja, tirados en medio de la calle, dejándolos allí para que murieran, sin ninguna duda ni ningún tipo de remordimiento? El 27 de diciembre de 2020 comprendí que el mal se materializaba en la forma de gente normal sin corazón. Mi misión era tan clara como el agua: tenía que rescatar a uno de esos pequeños seres sin hogar que estaban al borde de la muerte debido a la mera irresponsabilidad de la naturaleza humana. Algunos dicen que es mejor comprar un perro que adoptarlo... pero yo no estoy de acuerdo. Mi hija más joven nació hace 22 años, así que era mi tiempo para retomar la maternidad que estaba en mi núcleo y aplicarla al miembro más reciente de mi familia.

Por eso procedimos a adoptar esta belleza de animal al día siguiente. Considerando que era mi primera mascota, debo asegurarles que me sentía algo ansiosa. Quiero decir... ¿quién no lo estaría, cierto? Pero, cuando vi el miedo en sus pequeños y brillantes ojos, buscando afecto y un hogar amoroso... fue cuando comprendí que nadie... y quiero decir NADIE... iba a lastimar a mi pequeño hijo. Claramente, tenía miedo; estaba descubriendo un mundo completamente nuevo, una familia completamente nueva, un ambiente completamente nuevo, un propósito completamente nuevo. Pero un guerrero es un guerrero, por naturaleza. Y, afortunadamente, era un gladiador, incluso más que Russel Crowe.

El amor se extendió bidireccionalmente desde el momento en que entró en nuestra casa, casi instantáneamente. El único debate que tuvimos fue el nombre que le íbamos a dar. Y, después de horas discutiendo el mejor enfoque para este pequeño, pasando de Mike, Jake e, incluso, Dwight (de "The Office"), decidimos nombrarlo "Loki" (vamos Marvel, danos algo de crédito... Tom Hiddleston estaría muy orgulloso de nosotros), aunque mi hija y mi yerno dicen que su nombre completo es "Loki Snoopy Michael Scott". Lo llevamos al veterinario y ¿adivinen qué? Este pequeño estaba en perfecto estado de salud... Quiero decir, ¿es o no un guerrero? Es incluso más fuerte que todos nosotros juntos.

Loki es un milagro de Navidad y Año Nuevo, que vino a esparcir la felicidad en cada rincón de la casa. Y ahora, una semana después, es un animal completamente distinto: está lleno de verdadera felicidad y alegría. Este rescate no solo cambió su vida... sino también la de todos nosotros. Nos dio una razón para creer en la esperanza, especialmente en estos tiempos difíciles que estamos viviendo. Quiero inspirar a la gente de todo el mundo a adoptar una mascota necesitada. Estos inofensivos animales merecen ser felices, considerando que su desinterés es lo que impulsa las verdaderas emociones en el mundo. Gracias, Loki, porque eres tú quien me hizo madre de nuevo después de 22 años de "medio tiempo".
