Historic 16th Century Lahore Fort

The Lahore Fort is located in Lahore, Punjab. In 11th century there was a mud fort during the rule of Mahmood Ghaznavi. This fort was destroyed by Mongols in 1241. Shahi Qilla was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1566. Then remaining Mughal emperors continued rebuilding and maintaining the fort. Lahore Fort is also added in UNESCO World Heritage Site for its beauty. One of the main attraction of fort is Alamgiri Gate which still looks great.

One of the main attraction in Lahore Fort is Sheesh Mahal ("The Palace of Mirrors). Sheesh Mahal is still beautiful and Government is renovateing this place to preserve the beauty of this place. Sheesh Mahal was constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631-32. In decoration they had used white marble and very beautiful mirror-work in local language known as ayina kari.

The Lahore Fort's main entrance gate and wall is a Picture Wall which was decorated in Emperor Jahangir's period. Extensive renovated work is going on to restore this picture wall beauty.

Besides Sheesh Mahal another iconic sight is Naulakha Pavilion which was built in 1633 during the Shah Jahan period. Naulakha Pavilion was built with white marble and has a curvilinear roof. Naulakha Pavilion's construction cost was around 900,000 rupees which was a big amount at the time and also got name Naulakha from Urdu word for 900,000.

Other main attraction of Lahore Fort is Diwan-e-Khas where Emperor used to attend the matters of the state. This place is also renovated to restore its glory. In Diwan-i-Khas there is a garden, fountains and different platforms for audience.

Lahore Fort is a great place to visit. They are also having a museum section for people where different things of past era are exhibited. If you look closely you can observe every detail of work which shows the expertise of craftsmen of that era.
