2400-Year-Old Sadhu Meditation Caves
Shah Allah Ditta caves are located in seven hundred year old village named Shah Allah Ditta. The village was named after a Mughal's period Dervash. Shah Allah Ditta was a main route from Kabul to Gandhara city of Taxila. Many famous warriors like Alexander The Great, Sher Shah Suri, Mughal rulers and many other emperors used this route while traveling from Afghanistan to Hindustan. Shah Allah Ditta caves are located on this route near tomb of Shah Allah Ditta. It is believed that these caves still have 2400-year-old Buddhist era murals.
It is believed that caves and platform in this area were first used by Buddhist monks and later Hindus for meditation. In Mughal period this area was used by Muslims.
These caves are still occupied and some people live here. This place has a spiritual aura and you can feel peace here. There is also a big swing and a small refreshment shop for visitors. If you are willing to spend some time there you can enjoy pakora with tea.
There is a fresh water pond in the middle of this cave compound. This water comes from a hidden under ground spring. This pond if full of colorful fish.
In past near caves there was a big fruit garden named Sadhu ka Bagh. Now only one big mango tree is left. In future Capital Development Authority is planning to preserve this area.
