Caturday: my cat got stuck on the cork tree, แมวติดอยู่บนต้นไม้

Saturday was a full moon day with powerful energy and life changing moments or some small mental test of general emotional stamina. I was on edge as if I was waiting for something odd to happen. The morning was rather hectic and demanding emotionally having to reorient my inner balance. I searched for earthquakes on the internet, and I found that a strong one hit Turkey. I could sensed the strong earthquakes several hours ahead that was why I could not sleep. Then, in the evening of my cats got stuck on the cork tree.

At first I thought he was just kidding and playing around on top of the tree. After several attempts to persuade him to come down, he still perched there on three flimsy branches. This was serious as his younger sister sat on the ground watching his brother. The sky was getting dark very quickly and I began to be worried after twenty minutes of waiting.

His sister cat did something very interesting. She was trying to help her brother. First she tried to climb up the tree to reach her brother but she gave up as the branches were too small. Then she ran up and climb the other cork tree which is much bigger and more stable with thick branches. This was the first time she climbed to the top of a tree and shook the tree with her weight. Then she showed her brother how to climb down the tree backward and not face down. I could hardly believe what I was witnessing. These cats could be so smart and solve problems as if they had logical thinking. I was very impressed by this chubby and timid cat who always seemed like a weak and withdrawn character. She showed me her hidden courage in time of difficult situation. I have learned so much from this little orange cat and my perception about her has completely changed.

I was worried as the sky was getting darker and darker; the builders have not installed a lamp in the garden yet. The brother cat gave me a serious look on his face. He looked down the tree trying to climb down but he could not grab the small branches with his face-down approach. I told him to turn around and came down with his tail end; but he was too nervous perching on three tiny branches. So, I had to fetch the ladder and tried to help my cat. The ladder was a meter too short so I had to climb the tree to find a stable spot to reach the cat.

This was rather challenging for me as I could not see things very well in the dimming light and I could not reach my cat. The whole tree shook as I climbed up and the cat was shaking on those small branches. He was afraid and was trying to grab those branches tightly. With my stretched arms I could reach the front leg of my cat. But I could not touch his head or body. Only one of my legs was firmly in the groove between two branches; the other leg was resting on a small stump. I did ask the land-spirit to assist me in this dangerous situation. I touched his front leg and tried to pull his leg towards me; but he was very afraid. I told him that was the only way I could get him down. I decided to use both arms to pull both his front legs down towards me while telling him that ‘you have to trust me. I have got you!’

I did not know how I did it in a few seconds. With one leg tuck in the tree groove, both arms pulling the legs so that the whole cat came tumbled on to my head and shoulders. Luckily the cat did not struggle with his claws. He was quite heavy from that height; with him in my hands I put him head down on the lower branch. He was so glad to jump off the tree. On reflections, I think there must be someone pushing my back all the time as I was stretching out both arms and turning my body on the tree with only one leg nicely ‘attached’ to the tree. I was very grateful to all those invisible beings who were looking after me. It was so good to see two orange cats side by side. Their affection for each other really beats me; especially the younger cat’s display of courage.

วันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมาเรานอนไม่ได้ และมีความรู้สึกว่าน่าตะมีแผ่นดินไหวใหญ่ที่ไหนสักแห่ง ตอนเช้าเราตามดูข่าวก็พบว่ามีแผ่นดินไหวขนาดใหญ่ที่ประเทศตุรกี มีคนบาดเจ็บและเสียชีวิตหลายคน วันนั้นเป็นวันพระใหญ่และเป็นวันลอยกระทง และตรงกับวันปล่อยผีหรือฮาโลวีนของฝรั่ง เราก็ค่อนข้างจะต้องระวังตัวเพราะคงมีพลังงานแปลกๆในบรรยากาศ พอตกเย็นเราคิดว่าจะไปงานลอยกระทงที่หมู่บ้าน แต่เกิดเหตุการไม่คาดคิด เราจับแมวไปแปะไว้ที่ต้นไม้ เพื่อให้มันยืนดูวิวแต่คราวนี้แมวปีนขึ้นไปถึงยอดไม้ ที่มีแต่กิ่งไม้เล็กๆที่พาดไปมา พอขึ้นไปแมวก็กลัวและไม่กล้าลงจากต้นไม้ มันมองลงมาก็เห็นว่าไม่มีกิ่งไม้ใหญ่ให้เกาะ แต่ถ้ามันรู้จักการกลับตัว แล้วเอาหัวขึ้นเหมือนตอนขึ้นต้นไม้ มันก็น่าจะถอยตัวลงมาได้ช้าๆ

ตอนแรกเราคิดว่ามันแกล้งทำเป็นนั่งชมวิวนานๆ เราเห็นว่าท้องฟ้าเริ่มมืด และช่างยังไม่ได้มาติดตั้งไฟที่สวนหน้าบ้านให้เลย เราก็พยายามเรียกให้แมวลงจากต้นไม้ แต่ที่แปลกคือน้องของมันคือเจ้าขวัญมานั่งใก่กำลังพี่ของมัน เราพยายามเอาเจ้าขวัญไปขึ้นต้นไม้ เพื่อเรียกให้เจ้าจอมลงจากต้นไม้ แต่เจ้าขวัญมีความคิดที่ดีกว่ามาก มันวิ่งขึ้นต้นปีบที่อยู่ข้างๆ ต้นนี้มีลำต้นใหญ่และตรง เจ้าขวัญปีนไปจนเกือบถึงยอดต้นไม้ แล้วเขย่าต้นไม้อย่างแรงให้พี่ขายดู เจ้าขวัญลงจากต้รไม้ด้วยการถอยหลังลงมาช้าๆ เจ้าจอมเห็นแล้วแต่มันไม่กล้าทำตาม เวลาผ่านไปเกือบสามสิบนาที แสงสว่างก็เริ่มลดลงจนเริ่มมืด เราจึงต้องไปเอาบันไดมาช่วยแมวก่อนที่จะมืดไปมากกว่านี้

แต่บันไดเตี้ยไปหนึ่งเมตร เราต้องปีนขึ้นต้นไม้ไปด้วย ทำให้ต้นไม้เอนเอียงไปมาเขย่าทั้งต้น เจ้าขวัญก็ตกใจมากพยายามเกาะกิ่งไม้ไว้ไม่ให้ตก เรายืดแขนไปข้างหนึ่งก็แค่แตะขาหน้าของแมว ไม่สามารถถูกตัวแมวได้ ปัญหาคือเราไม่มีที่ยืนสำหรับขาสองข้างบนต้นไม้ ยาซ้ายเสียบในช่องระหว่างกิ่งไม้ใหญ่ ส่วนขาขวาอิงอยู่ที่ตาของต้นไม้ คราวนี้เราก็พยายามยืดแขนสองข้างเพื่อไปดึงขาหน้าของแมวทั้งสองข้าง ตอนแรกมันพยายามเลี่ยงไม่ให้เราจับขา แต่เราบอกมันว่าต้องไว้ใจเราและเชื่อว่าเราจะจับตัวมันไว้ได้ แมวก็ยอมปล่อยตัวลงมา จอมมันตัวหนักมากกว่าสามกิโล เราจับขาหน้าไว้สองข้างตรงใต้แขน ส่วนตัวของมันก็โรยมาอยู่บนหัวและไหล่ของเรา โชคดีมากที่มันไม่ได้ดิ้นหรือใช้เล็บกับเรา เราก็จับตัวมันลวไปเกาะที่ลำต้นใหญ่ของต้นไม้ มันก็กระโดดลงไปที่พื้นด้วยความดีใจ งานนี้เราต้องขอบคุณเจ้าที่และสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธ์ที่คอยช่วยดูแลให้เราปลอดภัย เรารู้เลยว่าแมวคิดได้เหมือนคนในเวลามีปัญหา เจ้าขวัญแมวอ้วนที่ขี้อายก็กลายเป็นแมวที่ฉลาดและคิดได้ไวอย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ เราดีใจที่แมวสองตัวสนิสสนมและรักกันดีมาก
